I am new to the site and am having trouble finding a odd noise on a N14.
I had a injector changed 2 weeks ago and it did not help.
    Here's my problem
The engine makes a loud bang or pop out the exhuast very erratic and I can't get it to do it when I want. I have Cummins INSITE 6.2 PRO and hooked it to it and run cyl. cutout test. Found on friday night in motel parking lot that when you click START button for cyl. cutout test noise totally disappears, as soon as you click STOP cyl. cutout test button noise returns. To me it almost sounds like over-fuel on one injector. The cyl. cutout test shows all injectors operating fine, at idle and on the road.

sorry for being so long winded

I am a farmer and don't drive it to much but when drove I am the driver.

    Thanks

Sounds like an electrical problem, not mechanical...............

Yeah, thats one problem I think everyone has experienced on a N-14 or M-11. First thing to check is the ground fuse for the ECM, its located a the rear of the ECM, on top of all the connectors.

Remember when doing the cutout is to make sure the percent fuel isn't changing. If its running over ...................about 4-5% at idle we have a problem. Usually when you run the cutout on a cylinder the percent fuel should jump to about 10-11. And obviously if you're already at 10-11, just watch it and when it doesn't change you've found your cylinder.

If its not a fueling noise, which I think it is.....you may want to take off the valve covers and inspect the springs and push tubes......oh that reminds me...do you have engine brakes?

Normally this problem is caused by an injector and is easier to diagnose with the engine brakes off.....but just remember to plug the oil rifle.

I'm all ears to all ideas

    Also I do have Jakes

And the cummins dealer set the whole overhead 2 weeks ago, made no difference.

    vegetto05,
Having trouble finding ECM ground fuse?
What does it look like and do all N14 have it?
Looked for 20 min. tonight and cannot seem to find it.

No, I think just the E+......or maybe all the celect plus...

If its not there, I wouldn't worry about it. If it was...it grounds to the top rear bolt of the ECM cooler...
