Drivers, there’s also something called LIVING WITHIN YOUR MEANS!!If you know your job isn’t paying you enough to cover your mortgage, then maybe you shouldn’t be looking at a house so soon in the game.

That heavily depends on where you live though. If you live in Sedalia, Missouri, $40,000 is definitely not poverty. You can rent a 2-bedroom apartment for $500 per month in the area.
Heck, I make a little over $65,000 GROSS, and my wife makes about $40,000 GROSS working part-time as a nurse. We have one child, and live in a very high cost of living area in the west suburbs of Chicago. 2,200 square foot houses by me sell for $350,000. We rent a 1,250 square foot townhome for $1,500 per month, and we don’t struggle. We constantly add to our savings every month.
I’m not gloating, and we are not rich, but an individual making $40,000 GROSS can afford to live in 85% of the country. Maybe that person can’t afford a new truck, a boat, or a 5-bedroom house, but that individual is not in poverty.
None of what I’m saying is to defend Werner, I understand that they are the bottom of the bottom feeders, but knock off this $40,000 is poverty nonsense. If you live in Cali, then I understand where you are coming from. But, that would be what I call the exception, not the rule.MCMarshall Thanks this. -
Nice to see a driver standing up for another driver.. And ive read her same story on here for years from countless other drivers, and only a couple like you, so ill go with her story over yours in a min..

Only if you have a family of 8. Here are the amounts....
1 $12,140
2 $16,460
3 $20,780
4 $25,100
5 $29,420
6 $33,740
7 $38,060
8 $42,380
The 1,2,3,etc. Is number of people in household. Gotten from Poverty Guidelines -
Low-income is considered 200 percent of the federal poverty level, and poor is defined as 100 percent of the poverty level. For 2013, a family of four making less than $23,624 is considered at the federal poverty level, and $47,248 is considered low income. This is 2013 guidelines, what is considered poverty? You can't pay a mortgage on $12,000, feed yourself, buy essentials, health bills, car payments, WAKE UP AND GET REAL.

In the Mid Atlantic states you can not live on $12,000 a year unless your in a log cabin in the woods.

You said that $40,000 was poverty. He showed proof that it was not, so now you change the wording to “low-income”. Of course you can’t pay a mortgage on $12,000, you shouldn’t be owning a darn house making that little to begin with.
Again, if you live in a lower cost of living area, like Jacksonville, Illinois, you could support a family of 4 on $47,000. No, you probably shouldn’t have cable, your cars should be older, and you should do all your grocery shopping Aldi, but it can be done.
You come off as if you live in a bubble.Lonesome Thanks this. -
When the heck did I say that you can live on $12,000? In rural Missouri, Mississippi, or even downstate Illinois, you can make it on $20,000 per year as a single individual. I’d say $20,000 is the minimum one needs to make to live, but it varies greatly depending on location. Where I live, the bare minimum you need to make is between $26,000-$27,000 as a single person.
-
But, even by me, in expensive as heck Wheaton, Illinois, you will do fine making $40,000 as a single individual. If you have 5 kids, that’s a different story.
Lonesome Thanks this. -
$40,000 is poverty? Hmmmm, I better have a discussion with my wife, that's what she makes. No wonder we only have 4 cars, 2 pickups and a boat.
