im intersted in everyone’s opinion on being paid by the hour vs being paid by the load. I know each has its pros & cons but which would you prefer?

I prefer by the load so if I do the duty correctly Everything is on time, drive at night with less traffic, park during day with more parking. Hourly is for the huddled masses, heck with that.

By the load, until I get held up somewhere.

focus on something other that money, it is basically worthless anyway. Your time and family is way more important than a few dirty bills that they will take sooner or later.

Forced dispatch, hourly. Choose my own loads, pay per load.

Here's my problem with hourly pay...
I normally run 2 weeks and take a week off. When I'm not in the truck, I'm on the bike roaming the highways. Now my problem with every company that pays hourly is they tell me that I have to work 12 months before I can take a week off. And I only get 1 to 2 weeks to ride.
That aint cool.
BTW, Mr Thull, did you ever get your foot in the door of one of those tanker gigs in your area?stwik, SingingWolf, Thull and 1 other person Thank this. -
I enjoy being hourly. I am local so i handle a lot of different loads and spend a lot of time on duty not driving (switching trailers, securing loads, fixing other peoples’ poorly secured loads, etc.). I can take the time to focus on those things without worrying about it affecting my pay.
I have never been paid by the load but i do see how it could be appealing in certain situations.Fuelinmyveins Thanks this. -

If you drive local in big metro areas then you better be hourly.
bottomdumpin, Thull and Trucking in Tennessee Thank this.
