Ughhhh. I know it’s hypothetical but if I was making $40 a load in the Bay Area it better be across the street from the rack. Even 5 miles away we’d be making like $5 an hour.

I'm not angry with you. I have basic math skills and your story doesn't add up. For me a full load of gas is 11400, I'm rarely done in less than 45 minutes. If I'm delivering on the other side of the mountain and the station has one coax fill tank, then I'm there over an hour.

Full load of gas for me is 9500
Generally drop at around 350gpm. So yea if I got a full load going into 1 hole, I’m gonna be there 35 minutes. Thankfully most my loads are grocery lists and I drop 3 at a time. And being I am being paid by the load, I hook and unhook very fast. I don’t milk things out
There are times I would like to be paid hourly so I could relax more and not be in such a hurry, but the top paying company in my area that are hourly is Pilot at $25/hr, which is only 2/3rd of what i average busting ###, so I’m happy with load pay -
Ok fellas different strokes for different folks as they say. I live in the car capital work in the car capital (socal) so load pay is out of the question. We have traffic that is insane even running nights you can get hung up. Now of i was in the sticks or even a smaller city I could see load pay working. Plus that holiday pay at double time or more is hard to beat that would be over $700 bucks in one shift.

I know that when I was driving a few years back hourly wage was by far the superior way to be paid. Chevron and us were about the only companies that were being paid by the hour. In Las Vegas back when CalNev owned the pipeline the racks were known to go down when any bad weather was around. It didn't bother us how long because our pay was the same up to 10 hours. My company was getting a little paranoid and timed all our stations down to the minute. It wasn't a hard time you just couldn't mess around and BS with people or whatever. Now all that pay for the drivers and the benefits are gone. Big oil decided to hire out all it's distribution and us drivers had to go elsewhere. When all that happened a lot of companies got away from hourly wage.

How's it going fellow drivers?! great read here...Im looking to bring my truck back to Las Vegas (or closer), currently doing diesel loads in the Texas oilfields. I'm doing great but would like to come home more often. so I'm looking for a decent company for owner operators around here. I have experience on gas, diesel, & crude. but I'm open to any great paying gigs that you may know of. I actually worked for a local company here in Vegas doing local gas station deliveries before I went on as an O/O. and I was coming home daily, but they hardly ever hire O/Os. any ideas? I could also move to maybe Phx AZ, or somewhere outside LA. thank you all for your pointers.

As you know Las Vegas does not have that many O/O's hauling gasoline. Back in the 90's they had 1 and he didn't pull that much. Who did you work for in Las Vegas? If you know someone then you've got an ace. But if you're going in cold then I would look at the dirt haulers. They pay about the same except you might have to pull three trailers. And really that's no big deal.

Fuel market in Phoenix is saturated with companies and most pay crap(the majority of driving jobs here as well.)

Hey California guys.
What do I have to do to renew my license. It expires next month but I still think I have another year on my hazmat background. Do I renew/retest for my license, and then do TSA later when that expires? Please advise. Thanks. -
Yup unless you want to pay early so they are linked both will be done separately. I have mine land almost together just lucked out that way.plant Thanks this.
