First of all STOP making assumptions about me. I was actually NOT speaking of that joke as being about public urination! I said that comment reminded me of that joke. Just for the record the joke went something like this. A lady complained to a cop that she was being bothered by a naked man. The cop followed her home and the lady pointed out the house where the man was. The cop said I don't see a naked man. The woman then said well if you get in such and such a position you can see him. How about next time before you develop diarrhea of the mouth YOU ACTUALLY READ what is written!

Okay...non violent single offense felonies, or what I call "stupid felonies"...there needs to be restorative justice. If it is a low end marijuana possession charge or something similar, after their sentence, whether it is probation or diversion, clear their record and restore their rights.

Speeding in excess of 15MPH used to be a felony in some jurisdictions. Really? Shame on you, pay your fine. Be good for six months, expunge the record and "go and sin no more".

Manslaughter...which may surprise you is the single LOWEST repeat felony offense because it is usually a crime of passion (heat of the moment). Okay, ya done it. Ya done your time. Spend a couple of years "on paper" and if you stay clean, restore limited rights (no guns, no dangerous weapons), and go on with your life.

Sex crimes (trafficking, rape, molestation) are the single HIGHEST recidivism rate among offenders. There is a place in Phoenix that is a release house for sex offenders, and over 20 years....87% of the released offenders RE OFFENDED, or at least were caught. So what is the hard number? It's ###### sure higher than 87% if those are only the ones who were CAUGHT and prosecuted.

Ask someone who works in corrections and they will tell you that the SO (Sex Offender) yards are little more than "revolving door" units.

Go into a house where a chomo lives one time and see the sick #### they have...kids toys, porn (that will make a real human being puke), and then tell me they aren't broken, twisted, and need to be somewhere other than among people who DON'T RAPE CHILDREN.

Yeah....my optics are definitely a bit different because I have seen the damage these sick mother####ers do to truly innocent human beings. Rape, child molestation, and other sex offenses are NOT about "sex" or "love" as those twisted ######## from NAMBLA would try to have you believe. They are about violence and control.

    There's your answer.

    I understand your position.

Yes we are a nation of Laws. However. The people, in it's basic feelings, morals and prejudices (Which would be very common despite any effort to to contrary.)

Keep in mind I have made it clear that Felons in general do get a fresh economic start in trucking. There were 4 out of 21 in my class at trucking school ALL have been more than good to us. One in particular stepped up to assist when I lost a wheel to a large pothole for which Baltimore failed to take care of on a state road no less. Theoratically I could bill Baltimore for the damage to the wheel, tire, front end suspension and alignment stuff on that side of the car. Ultimately it was taken care of.

One other felon behaved and communicated very well. And one day of the driving test took me to one side and told me that I have been able to learn everything needed to pass the state test today. If I did not pass, I can expect to be cornered somewhere quiet and violence to be applied until there is blood because I failed to pass something.

In today's society that would be a threat many people cannot stand to have communicated to them. They will call the law etc. In those days we did not make a big deal about it even though it was a valid threat.

I did not get into the Public Urination/Sex Offender issues. Generally it's too messy and not common for those who made water in a few moments somewhere to be prosecuted as a sex offender. It's does not compute. Generally there are bathrooms in walking range and aviation style urine collection devices that can be cleared into a toilet properly and then sanitized for the next flight etc. The premise I use is that a human being gets plenty of warning that the bladder needs taken care of.

    Anyhow.

In the end of the day, I have to set aside or fail to communicate some of the things that made me who I am long before political correctness and society demands people not to be offended. Essentially a rule of silence in public is what I follow. The only one place we speak freely is at home with trusted family or friends. Anyone else of a non conforming upbringing or different religions, ethic or political view points are excluded. Ive gotten into trouble before in these very forums when I say things towards Islamic. The moderators made sure I understood my limits and I do not exceed them.

Finally but not least. I do not do well with Lawyers in general. They are very valued, useful etc when there is a suit to be defended again; which happened twice in my life. And a couple of other problems as well by trucking companies in particular. Industrial Law as pertaining to workers and so on is a whole another field in which a lawyer with experience is very valuable. Particularly if a employee like myself is feeling a sense of injustice or being wronged on purpose by a Trucking Company who thinks they can get away with such abuse. They picked the wrong worker. Me.

Lawyers have the ability to indict a Ham Sandwitch sitting on the kitchen counter, made up and ready for one purpose. Lunch. I see it as material for lunch only. HOWEVER Lawyers are sometimes very predatory and can use current Laws against a Ham Sandwitch.

This is strictly a illustration using concept or words. Not a attack against Lawyers.

As far as my own experiences against sex offenders and watching classmates fall victim to such abuses over the years, being in a dormitory situation since Childhood into either elementry school grades or Junior High most particularly (I was in public school those years, and escape the attention of two abusers staff in particular who managed to commit crimes of inappropriate touching in the night on up to outright assaults) And into high school where I defended myself where necessary against the same staffers which I knew were not normal like everyone else and were driven by a need to commit sex crimes from touching all the way up and considered the dormitory a personal playground to themselves to run around in with so many potential victims to abuse. Several of whom cannot hurt a fly, literally. They were destroyed mentally when finally confronted with anger and so on. They were removed from Society and are now wards of the state in institutions behind three sets of locked and supervised doors for the rest of their lives never to worry about that again.

I myself came close to being one myself. That is why I value freedom, freedom to marry, raise a family. Own a house and do the things in life I wanted to do. Im in my 50's and have done everything I set out to do. My one regret is the possibility that I may not travel to the east coast and see the Atlantic one more time. That ocean has a powerful pull on me and always will.

Ive said enough. We all are individuals in life. Not all of us travel the same path. Nor is all of us going to agree with at least one or some of us who have experienced bad things. And increasingly in this society some of us are silenced out of necessity to avoid a hyper enforcement activity by the Law triggered by hurt feelings of those who absolutely will NOT accept freedom of speech as laid out by the first amendment.

@Ken S LaTrans - Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. That was such a nice, non-defensive exploration about this topic. I asked you those questions, knowing that the recidivism rate among sex offenders is high. There doesn't seem to be a well-understood reason why. Regarding your ideals about felonious conduct and full integration into society, I find that to be positive and non-threatening. I wish our government was set up more like Canada or most of Europe. Those progressive, burgeoning nations (of extremely low recidivism) wipes criminal records for the most serious offenses after 10 years and for mostly everything else in 5 years. Therefore, people realize full restoration of rights and the opportunity to have every occupational license/employment opportunity without the record emerging. People use that time to prepare themselves for a future (vocational study, college, university, etc.) and they do so well afterward. For most offenses - other than SOs - people seem to succumb to recidivism based on limited opportunity / socioeconomics.

I suppose changes like this will be more perceptible as we move toward the major shift that will occur around 2050.

Man, you've had some really transformative experiences in life. I'm grateful to know that your life has turned out the way that you would have liked (wife, family, great job and the ability to express yourself).

We are just talking about the issues of criminal convictions as it relates to CDL training and the ability to pursue a trucking career with these challenges. Please don't be sensitive. We're exploring our ideals in such a productive manner.

He's not being sensitive, we have ONE place that allows politics and the discussion, and it is not in open forums. If you all wish to discuss the political side of this discussion, please move it to the politics section. First and final warning.
