1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I am a wannabe trucker and I need help deciding on a company. I have to go to a company that has a school and I'm willing to sign a contract but I want to pick a good company and not one that I'll be miserable at for a year and get a bad taste in my mouth for the industry. I've all but ruled out Swift for obvious reasons and I'm looking at American Eagle Lines really close and that looks like a good possibility, however right now with the way the economy is I was told by them that they are able to be alot more choosey now as to who they hire and their hiring area is very limited right now. For example I have a spot clean record the only thing that may hold me up is that I have 5 jobs listed in a 3 year span and the only reason why is because I moved alot during those few years it was nothing I could really do about it. Anyway they may hire me and everything maybe alright but I want to have a back up plan just in case. I know right now is not the best time for the industry but I have no doubt it will pick back up stronger than ever. If ya'll could just give me some good starter companies that are good to students and have the least amount of problems it would be greatly appreciated.

Look at all your options, be realistic about what they are, and do what you have to do. It's not forever.

You shouldn't have much problems getting with a company. I'm a former Swift driver and I noticed you said "...for obvious reasons.." as to why you wouldn't go that route but notice THE VAST MAJORITY OF DRIVERS ON THE ROAD STARTED AT SWIFT. You can check out ADMIN REMOVED they are a PAM/ USA TRUCK feeder. I talk with some of those drivers on the road and they like the company. Something to remember is at the end of the load, the truck color and the way they give you the money is the only difference (starter companies). Some pay more for miles while less in benefits. Others have great hometime and mile pay but no miles to run you. In the beginning you are LEARNING, it's the equivelent to college, you need 2 to 3 years to make the good money. Good luck and much success to you

Thank you for the insight the reason I said for obvious reasons about Swift is I hear just horrible things about them and not just on this forum. I have looked at USA truck and PAM before, but I heard PAM laid off alot of drivers recently so that kinda scared me away from them. USA is still an option I just didn't know if anyone else knew of any companies that had a school besides Central, Stevens, and the other reefer companies, I'm tryin to stay away from reefer if i can.

Yes, we're all aware that Swift has trained over 1.5 million drivers.....NOT :biggrin_25512:

But based on that assumption...why did 1,470,000 drivers quit ? :biggrin_2554:

Have any of ya'll ever heard of Driver CDL Staffing? Supposedly they're a school I looked at their website and called them 3 times got no answer left 3 messages and never got a call back and i applied online and got the standard email letting me know they would be in touch reguarding my application but that I could call them and expedite the process which i did and still got no answer and left another message. Just seems kinda weird to me but I'm new at this so maybe its not weird.
