Ive searched previous threads and kind of found a partial answer to my question. I went through all the trouble of getting my own authority and I ran my own truck for a couple of years before having to shut down due to some personal issues. So, with that background, I let my MC # go inactive and I know I can file some paperwork and reactivate it (at least I think I can). Second part of my question is I feel like its always better to maintain activity if possible and I dont have any short term plans to get another truck and start up but id like to keep my numbers active because at some point Id like to start back up..

That was a long winded way of asking should I or can I even keep numbers active if Im am not actively running a commercial vehicle? Im willing to pay annual fees and update the biennial update in order to keep things active, I just wont be running a truck.

I believe as long as you want to pay the renewal fees you can keep it active. But if/when you decide to reactivate them, you will basically be starting over as far as insurance and brokers are concerned. They will see it as new numbers.

If the result of staying inactive is the same as being active I guess it makes no sense to keep it active. I know Id have to update my MCS-150 and if I dont have a truck or trailer anymore Id have to put zeros on those lines.. So I didnt know if it was possible to even stay active unless you could list that the business has some equipment

No you can not stay active. An MC requires insurance and at least one truck. Since you deactivated the MC there’s no enforcement action so when you go back up it will show active like you have been running all along. Just can change the name. You may have to pay a small fee each year there pretty helpful people down there.

Thats what I was thinking after going over my MCS-150. If I can go active again with my numbers I might be able to reactivate my corporation with the state so everything would be the same. If thats the case its worth it to stay inactive and reactivate when Im ready to go again.

Question is whether or not after the reactivation ,the Insurance will treat you with a new venture rates again. 15K the first year for me; 10.5K in my 2nd year.

    You don't need a truck.

Ahhh yes because to have an MC requires insurance so you have to insure a truck. A DOT number can be parked

i have a question on this. i laid my business to rest back in 2006.. been thinking of starting up again and when i went to safer web i notice my dot# is still active.. never had an mc # cause i was only running in the state.. but all the info is outdated.. so my question is if i start back up, and update all the info how will my dot# be viewed? and when i go interstate and get a mc# how will that efffect it?
