JD, you've heard of the famous cummins 444 I'm sure, right? Well that generation of 855 big cam was basically the predecessor to the N14.

That when cummins started the gamble (and lost) with the STC system. They tried it on the N14 with much better success, but by that time Detroit was kicking arse with the 60 series. So then the electronic age began. Cat tried their PEEC garbage. But finally came up with the first generation E model bout 93/94 and that was a game changer for sure

In my opinion yes. They got better with age until the emissions of 2008 kicked in.

The SDP ( basically the last C15 built )was an awsome engine once you took all the EPA and regen garbage off of it.

The 6NZ is the coveted engine around here but I’ve heard good things about the ACCERT, even @wore out mentioned the ACCERT as being a good motor. I’ve driven two full time and like them.

Dont get me wrong, the 6NZ is a great engine, but personally it's just a bunch of hype from alot of people that cant even tell you why there are "better".

The biggest thing about a 6NZ was the change cat made in how the structures sealed. I love that part versus an E model. Oring style gaskets on the C15 fixed that common front and rear cover oil leak problem that the old 3406 E, B, C had with those crappy paper gaskets. The oil pan gasket looks like a #### puzzle you put together on those. I hated them. However, I didnt like the lighter and sculpted block of a 6NZ versus something like the older heavier blocks on say 2WS, that was a stronger block than the 6NZ.

2WS is my favorite serial number of all the CAT engines, with the exception of a 7FB early B model.

Dad had a 400 BC3 with the pumped turned up specs+10% I think? Had a 13 and 3.73. His friend was jealous and bought a 444 and still couldn’t keep up, both 9370’s.
