Well it was actually Spring Valley...

    Marmon...

Wasn’t too bad once they got the #### forklift out to the yard. Unload went rather quickly...

600/2050? Holy guacamole! I'd be good with 525/1850, lol. 600 would handle B-trains like a champ.

I'm guessing a N14 is cheaper to rebuild than a 5EK/2WS CAT? Those kitties always seem to command such a high price.

I know the 2WS is a good one, if we build a glider I’m leaning towards one if I can find one. If not it’ll be an 6NZ with an ACCERT rotating assembly.

May be but I’d still personally rather have a big cam, thanks be to parts availability and user serviceability.

User serviceability is debatable on a B model Cat vs a big cam I would think but could be wrong. As far a parts availability Cummins will never beat Cat on that.

Okay, but remember the money factor between the two. You can sure rebuild a BC a hell of a lot cheaper than a CAT.

I’ve read that Cummins costs just as much as Cat as far as parts and rebuild... not sure about the Big Cam though.

    We’re talking pre-emission too.

Everyone tends to hold Cats in a league of their own on here. Especially against Detroit’s and the N14... not sure why, really.

All the SDP's we have seem to be duds. And that's all the crap removed too. ACERT's from the BXS/MXS/NXS era are fantastic. Driven several myself.

Everyone wants a 6NZ because it's like the Signature 600 Cummins. Last true pre-emissions motor CAT made. The MBN was the "bridge" between the older style and newer style ACERT motors. My full time truck is a first gen ACERT C-13. Solid as a brick house and power for days from a 13 litre.

That and some 6NZ's were built before the ELD mandate date.

Yes and no. But I do agree, CAT seems proud of certain parts. In reality, if you go to cummins to buy genuine Cummins parts, man they are just as proud as Cat on alot of stuff.

As far as price, I think labor is a huge reason so many guys have a bad taste in their mouth. These shops are RIDICULOUS and many of the mechanics are glorified parts changers. Especially on older stuff. If you do it yourself like @OLDSKOOLERnWV , @wore out , @ShooterK2 , @superhauler , and the other gear men on here, you'll see in the end, using genuine Cummins and Cat parts and depending on what all you replace/overhaul the end cost is close. Sounds crazy I know.

Good to know, thanks. Saw I think it was Wore and OLDSKOOLER going on in another thread somewhere about the comparisons between B CAT's and BC's, talking costs and all.

I've got a CAT-certified rebuild mechanic on speed dial who I'm sure would work for a reasonable price (he and I have semi-seriously talked starting in the business together) that may end up being a better investment to go with a CAT than Cummins. But when that time comes, I guess it'll matter more what I/we need and what price is right at the time.
