    You work, mostly, alone.
You spend a lot of time inside your own head.

    It's awful for some.
    A blessing for others.

Establish a ritual; do what you enjoy & what helps pass the time.

I did OTR for only 14 months before going local. I didn't mind the road. The country is actually quite regionally diversified and uniquely beautiful... appreciate what you see. I hated sleeping in random State X, Y, Z for weeks on end... It also killed a relationship I wanted to keep (but, retrospectively, it's better dead)... you learn a lot about yourself in isolation, if you didn't already know those things.

Appreciate what you see & what you're doing while it lasts. Collect stories. Enjoy yourself. Sure, it's a job, doesn't mean it has to completely suck ###.... especially since you know it isn't going to last forever.

That's usually what I do. Drove west down I80 through Nebraska and part of Wyoming. Man, that was a long, straight stretch of nothing. Stopped for my 30 with only 30 minutes left on my clock. Took more like 45, then back on the road. Traveled about 677 miles that day.

i feel you. we also snack whenever we are getting tired. these snacks are good

get pistachio nut at sam's club that comes in 24 counts of 1.5 oz bag. eat it like sunflower seed, keep you busy.

Wonderful Roasted & Salted Pistachios - 24 count, 1.5 oz bags

Terra Original Vegetable Chips is also great for snacking.

my gf listens to haunted stories to keep her awake lol. maybe try to listen to conspiracy stuffs (ancient aliens, illuminati, etc haha) to keep your mind entertained also

That’s true. That really helps actually, like I said I’m just getting used to the solitude, I enjoy being alone but then the other 20% extrovert like hey let’s what your family or friends are up to and I can’t really do that unless I call them. Funny thing is I know they’re not doing anything like when I left them. Once I get better with backing and parking and all the other stuff I’m sure I’ll be more comfortable. Stressful at first

Its a lot for us rookies. I was certainly tired once I finally parked to switch out.

I let myself daydream a little as long as I am still scanning frequently like I should be. I make it a point to look down at every car that passes. It keeps me from tunnel vision and it keeps my head turning. Then I check the reefer light and across my dashboard... Esp at my speedometer.[/QUOTE]
