I have a 2000 CX Vision with a 460 engine. I'm maxed at 88,000 lb. everyday and frankly I'm not impressed with the pulling performance of the E-7 engine I currently have. I have never gotten over 27 lb of boost pressure and it heats up fast on the pyrometer. No, its not turned up. It's still set at factory specs. I've asked my local Mack dealer about changing the turbo etc and they said Mack said nothing can be changed. Well I know that can't means they don't want you to which is a whole other story. The entire engine has 296,000 miles on it yes that includes the air charge cooler turbo and injectors. Basically everything that could be replaced was when they dropped in the crate engine at 1,400,000 miles.

It does blow a small amount of black smoke with I know is un-burned fuel which makes me think it's not getting enough air and also can explain the fast rising pyrometer temps. So does anyone have any ideas?

You checked to make sure there's no boost leak somewhere? Try a new air filter? A small amount of black smoke on acceleration in a 2000 truck is normal I would think. Dealers never seem to think there's a better way than factory specs for anything, doesn't mean they're right.

Yes everything has been checked and anything questionable has been changed.

you can change things but Mack will not to make good power factory in 2000 you need 460xt file which is 490hp or a 427 file and hop the motor with injectors and possible a bigger turbo if you need more but that motor needs to be in the 32lbs of boost to be makeing any power

It's supposed to be a 460 whether or not it has the file you mentioned I don't know but I can have them plug into it and install it if that will help. I am ready to park it and buy another truck but with a CAT. Thanks for the idea. I'll check on that.

Here's an update. On a whim I removed the factory muffler and the pyrometer temp dropped back to what I call normal range and the boost is at 32. I would assume that the muffler was stopped up. I like the straight exhaust but have installed a resonator. So at this point I'm much happier and the truck is running better. So in my eyes the problem is solved. Thanks for all the impute. Happy Trails to all

32lbs is more normal my 427 will do 32-35lbs a hot file in the motor and it will push 40-45lbs
