I'll be sure to let my landlord, the utility company, the city, and all the other bill collectors know that when I can't pay when the due date rolls around. Look I agree with you. No driver should be forced to do ANYTHING they aren't comfortable doing. I also agree that you as the driver are the captain of your ship, however, in MY area the jobs are slim pickens, at least for jobs that are worth a ####. I've turned down about 10 companies recently who tried to hire me for this specific reason. I let it be known up front what I'm not going to do, and what I WON'T do, is continually break the law, or run myself into the ground so the boss man can count more Ben Franklin's while paying me peanuts.

I do agree more drivers need to demand better pay/treatment, but you start demanding too much, and you can demand yourself right out of a job. Now in relation to local jobs (which is what I'm referring to in the particular instance,) around here there's not a lot of long term, legitimate jobs falling off the tree, so as a man, you take what you can get for the time being to put food on the table, instead of taking government assistance.

Sometimes that lands you with an outfit that is less than stellar who thinks they can take advantage of you. Unfortunately, a lot of folks are in that position because for whatever reason they HAVE to be. They might have strikes on their record, strikes on their MVR, or someone like me with a clean mvr, good experience but in an area where jobs are not that plentiful, at least not GOOD jobs. I'm far from a push over, and certainly not a "whipping boy" as you so eloquently put it, and I have no problem voicing my displeasure, but until you OWN the truck you're driving, you only have so much demanding you can do until you're shown the door.

I don't care who you are, you are replaceable. Either way, regardless of your situation, or mine, or anyone else my point still stands. Companies will, without a doubt, take full advantage of this "rule change," and if you don't comply, they'll find someone who will. I'm glad you're at a company that lets you do as you please, that's great, but not everyone has it like that, and not everyone can just say "take this job and shove it" because there are people who depend on them. If you're in a area where you can walk down the street after quitting and acquire a new job the same day, that's great I'm glad for you, but again, it's not like that everywhere.

Careful Dave, (it's strange saying your own name) they might think you're not a "real trucker."

It's the flexibility that a larger window to do your work in that people want, not the ability to do more work in a day.

8 hours a day is enough. They could have 3 shifts and pay a decent wage. just my two cents worth.
