OK, guys. We are seeing the usage of PC being pushed way out of shape. A lot of misinformation is out there regarding PC.
Here are some things you CANNOT do on PC: (this would be Driving time)
- repositioning the truck to benefit the carrier - moving closer to the next load/unload
- bobtailing to get another trailer/load
- transporting the truck to get vehicle maintenance performed, mechanic work, tires, etc.
- traveling home after loading/unloading not as part of a regular commute
Here are some things you CAN do on PC:
- commute back and forth from home to terminal or normal work reporting location
- short trips to run across town for personal reasons (steak dinner) from enroute lodgings.
The movement has to be completely personal in nature, not work related. Ask yourself this question: Can I get the same purpose accomplished in a taxi cab? If not, because you could not get the truck worked on or it would not get the truck where you need it to be later on, then it cannot be PC.

I hate to see so many of you getting shut down for being over hours or false logs just because you have been told wrong things about PC.

There's recently been a guidance comment released from the FMSCA about using PC to search for parking. Even if it's in the direction that's benefitting the company it'll still accepted. I'll see if I can find the link.

I also would theory that training has taken a step backwards in quality if drivers these days don't understand how do to PC and other things with a 18 wheeler. In addition some companies don't want to have the drivers know that they can do PC.
PC in my time was here is your bobtail, go home for the weekend (Full of fuel) and see you 8 am monday back here. No logs in sight. I can tell you it saved alot of gas money on my part even though I sometimes splash some fuel into the bobtail for a couple 20's now and then when I took it into several states.laaylor and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
Personal conveyance needs to go away, that's the exact thing elogs were supposed to stop wasn't it? Either there is lee way for getting to a truck stop or there isn't, I guarantee if I showed an hour of "personal conveyance" on paper logs I'd get a ticket.TheyCallMeDave, Dave_in_AZ, 06driver and 1 other person Thank this.

I used PC just last night. My planned stop, with 39 minutes of drive time left, was a ####hole with a gravel parking lot surrounded by 3 foot tall weeds and nowhere for my dog to go out. I drove a bit further toward my destination, checking each exit for parking. There was none.
With 10 minutes left on the clock, I hit an exit to stop just long enough to switch it over to PC. As I did so, I got the “low and slow” evil eye from an Alabama trooper as I rolled up to the stop sign. I thought to myself, “Just pull me over for an inspection, I’ll chew your ####ing ear off telling you what I think of these ELD’s.”
13 minutes into the negative, I hit the ramp for the Loves in Jasper, AL. At 19:30, there were only three spots left, the rest of which were filled within 15 minutes of my arrival.
All that being said, if there’d have been no spots left, I’d have PC’d my happy ### right on by Birmingham and went to the Shell station in Clanton, AL—90 miles away.
I am pretty much done with trucking—the ATA is going to get its wish. A couple more things to pay off and I will leave it to the 18 year olds and foreign nationals.bucko151, CorsairFanboy, laaylor and 8 others Thank this. -
I drive on line 1 numerous times a week. I'm off duty and using my truck for whatever non-business purposes I choose. PC will always be there. The problem isn't PC, or ELDs etc etc it's the HOS pure and simple.CorsairFanboy, Cattleman84, laaylor and 1 other person Thank this.
