Alright! let's get this "show" on the road---per se. Starting class March 30th and excited about new possibilities but hate the time that will be spent away from family---believe they call it 'paying your dues". A lot of research on companies......Millis comes out on top. This thread may or may not have a good ending.....let's wait and see. Distressed that after training has started and contracts signed, there might be some excuse to "churn" trainees. Don't believe Millis is such a company, but read earlier post where this happened. Someone went through class and was denied employment because of a suspension of a CDL that the person never had per insurance company.
Looking forward to new career. Background: father, have kids in and out of home, born Yankee but have a southern accent because of almost twenty years grits, cornbread, fatback, fried chicken, married to a "southern peach", I am under 50 yrs old(barely). Family does not like career change one bit, son/wife thinks I am leaving them for good (I am.....more money for US and coming back.......on hometime). Got CDL permit, DOT physical, paid $100 app fee, table dancing for the $400(kidding......speedo made me raw!) and I am going toward this with a open mind and no money (everybody I know says that I don't have any "cents")!
By for now! Everybody sing "on the road again...."

Some answers from someone who has been there.
1. Millis is not out to "churn" trainees. They want you to pass and to drive for them. I'ts that simple.
2. If you are broke, you won't be if you pass all the training, get your own truck and drive it safely and make your trips on time. You won't get rich either. You will work hard and long to do this.
3. Not having your family behind you could and probably will be a big problem. Try to fix this. When you get through it all they should be able to see how hard you are working and what an acheivement it is. I think this step is a must for you to make a go of this.
4. Make sure you know what you are getting into. If you just look at all the things that appeal to you and over look all of the bad stuff you might give up and be bitter with Millis and the industry, even though you made the choice to do this.
5. Oddly, what I said about looking at all of the things that appeal to you and over looking all of the bad stuff, before you get in is true. This is exactly the key to success once you are in. A positive attitude is a must. Focus on all the things that appeal to you and over look all of the bad stuff. Also, don't listen to and avoid all of the unhappy drivers out there.
Good luck,

Good luck to you. I will be at Cartersville on March 2. I have a wife and a teenage daughter, which I hate to leave. What I have done, is made sure the both of them have been involved in every decision and talk to them. A piece of advice I was once given by a drivers wife, was it it is not really how you treat your wife/family when your gone it is how you treat them when your home. Just remember that even if you only have 2 or 3 days off, try the best you can to spend all the time you can with your family.gonnabe Thanks this. -

Thank you all for replying. I have researched and researched, talked and blogged, posted and sometimes got toasted at the comments and reports. I did not assume to say that Millis "churns" but a company's bottom line is income and that is why most companies are not hiring experienced.....cheaper cpm. As I said- I am very impressed with Millis and want to give 100+%. They are on top as far as I am concerned and unless people stop drinking beer and useing other consumable products, the miles will come. I will post as much as I can without the idea of being a "narc". I respect propriatory information.
See you all at the top!
