That turbo is good for 550 hp. I wouldn't worrie about the wastegate at your power level honestly. Just make sure it stays closed if you take off the canister.

Should be nice and responsive and burn clean with real low egts.

If your boost stays under 30psi with canister off then your fine.

    SAR Thanks this.

What is the line in the Sand for egts with this engine?
We have always measured egt from manifold, this probe is down stream in the exhaust pipe about 6-8".

When I had my 4mg I never like going over 1000degres. The probe was in the down pipe same place.

I bet you cant get it over 750-800

    SAR and spsauerland Thank this.

Sounds good, where does this turbo start running out of breath?

    SAR and Oxbow Thank this.

I can get ours to 1000 at higher elevations, but it might be turned up just a smidge.

    SAR Thanks this.

Oxbow, if you adjusted your wastegate a bit for more boost you could get your egts down

A good running 4mg should be able to produce 30-32 psi with that turbo.
That's with the screws opened up..

    SAR and Oxbow Thank this.

Well it was designed for 550hp so any thing over that would be pushing it.

For your application it shouldn't be running short.

SAR, 894964f and Oxbow Thank this.

I'm not near the truck, and don't have any pictures on my phone.

On mine the max boost that I get is 24 to 27 depending on mostly ambient temperature. I honestly don't understand why it varies because pressure is pressure, but boost is measured after the CAC, so maybe that is the difference.

spsauerland, SAR and 894964f Thank this.

When I installed it I cut the spot weld to accommodate the change in mounting, and adjusted the rod shorter to take the slack out of it. I have heard of folks adjusting them, but I don't quite understand......if I shorten it more I would have to pull the inside of the pot out against the spring right? Maybe I thinking backwards; the rod extends when the gate opens right?

    SAR Thanks this.

Yes you adjust the rod for more preload against the spring. Another way you can do it is to put washers between the mounting bracket and canister on the studs. A couple washers on each stud usually good for 2-3 pounds boost and cooler egts and a stronger jake
