We all like the current HOS

Because local drivers have a guaranteed place to shut down every night but OTR drivers are often a far distance from a parking place when they leave the shipper and need the extra time.

I was thinking that local companies would work their drivers 16 hours a day everyday and that would be tiring. I don't think there's any way to do 16 hour days everyday OTR. Some of those days are going to be days where you're mostly driving and not sitting several hours at a dock.

 

I don't care about extending the 14 hr, don't care about the 30 min break, don't care about most of the HOS... Most of it is just fine.

The one thing I want changed is the split sleeper provision, so I can break my 10 hrs into 2 or possibly 3 separate breaks that are each 2 hours or more in length, and totaling 10 hours when added together. And make it stupid simple... No more than 3 hours of said 10 MAY be off duty, and at least 7 hours MUST be sleeper berth. Doesn't matter what order or how you group the off duty and sleeper berth as long as it meets the above requirements. And for this to work correctly any off duty, or sleeper berth break of more than 2 hours would pause the 14 hr clock once per 14 hour cycle or twice if 3 breaks were permitted.

This would satisfy several peoples wants.

don't like the 30 min break? This would make it so you don't have to do it.

Want the 14 hr Clock extended? This would do that.

Want to be able to stop and take a good nap in the middle of the day with out looking some of your 11 hours?? THIS DOES THAT TOO!!!!

One very simple change and it would help so many people in so many different situation.

And yes I did submit comment to FMCSA, took me nearly 2 hours to type, proof read, and edit that letter.

As I browsed many of the other comments that have been submitted, I was ashamed to be grouped within the same group as those that wrote such poorly thought out, misspelled, grammatically incorrect, knee jerk, snipetts of hastily typed opinions. Most with absolutely zero explanation of why they want whatever it is they want, or how it would affect themselves, others, or safety. Just "change _____ I don't like way is now... Ug ug!" If this is how most submissions have been in previous such comment times, its no wonder "They just do what they want anyway"... We can't even put up a decent facade in attempt to be intelligent, respectable, PROFESSIONALS!!

Can the mods Sticky this and paste on the front page please. Everyone knows the ATA, the Megas, and the big Brokers (like TQL) have their hands written all over the FMCSAs rule book. Where is Ooida? Thats right. No where.

 

I don't understand why the poll expires in 2028.

 

The HOS don't bother me too much....there are far more annoying things about this industry

 

And all those who cheated irresponsibly, only made just "a little bit more" money. I bet they're still out here too

 

I find their stuff high entertainment in a grizzly man kind of way.

I think both of you guys have pretty good opening arguments for improvements to the HOS. I wonder if you guys wouldn't mind expanding on your arguments and making them clear and concise. All good ideas have to start somewhere and allowing for lively debate on your ideas might just help to promote them to the next step for actual proposal. Proponents and opponents of your ideas could use this thread to either dismiss or embrace your arguments.
