Now before you read into this and instantly jump on 1099 or working for a foreign company , let me start off by saying I've had my Class A CDL for 10 years though, spotty verifiable experience due to 2-3 of the companies I've worked for are no longer in business or contactable. Not to mention I had a hit on my license 3 1/2 years ago, and to top it off due to health reasons I've been off the road for 2 1/2 years. That being said, my record and license is clean but I'm 6 months away if I remained off the truck to being considered a student all over again after the 3 year mark (insurance and mega carriers say that anyways) OK SO

I reached out to a few posted ads online , and comes to find out a lot of companies that are not well known or have a mixed reputation were more than glad to hire me and overlook all the above mentioned issues.

So, I have a offer today that intrigued me simply because when I ran as a lease operator 5 years ago , I got to see first hand how much the company was being paid per load vs. what I was making, and told myself if I ever worked for a small company again I would want to run % of the load vs. cents per mile on practical miles PC Miller etc...

SO this is what they offered me, I'd rather 1099 and % and make more money than go back to a mega carrier and work for student wages is my thought, as long as the pay and loads are consistent.. I don't know how the loads are booked or if we have control over that yet, I'll get more details later.

Tell me what you all think ? >>>

If u have a clean Mvr I can get in a truck as soon as u can get to conyers ga

Here is a little about how we run and where we go

We can run all 48 states depends on driver but primarily don’t run passed PA In the NE, Denver co and Tx on the west side. We have some drivers that are from wa and ca so of course we run them passed co and Tx. We have 2016-2018 trucks and 2017 and 2018 trailers dry vans and reefers 53. We pay on a percentage 45% and u r responsible for the fuel of course we have Fuel cards and u get all the discount benefits that come w it, (up to 14c per gal). This allows us to weed the good drivers from the bad, and when u pay attention where u fuel that money goes into ur pocket. So all we did is channel the money a little better, it’s leaving the company regardless, it’s better it going to the driver instead of to the truck stop. This way we make sure the driver gets it. This a 1099 job we have a sign on bonus and 1 week paid vacation after 6mo We r pretty easy going and upfront, we don’t won’t to waist time on drivers that are not ready to make money. Our drivers don’t do more then 2500 miles / week

You will not make money at this like you should and the split to you with fuel cost should be 60/40 ....also your verifiable experience problem will not be fixed by them best to bite the bullet go so a dedicated for rhael however that's spelled or even Crete sent me an email of like 85 k a year to do Walmart dedicated...
As a side note my current driver gets paid 25% of all revenue to truck but I put a floor of 1500 on it if he's out all week and I don't hit the numbers but his avg is around 1750 a week on a W-2 I think that's fair this deal with 45% of brokered frieght you will get hurt imo

I gave them the up and down on all the questions I could think of , they hold a $1000 in a escrow account for maintenance and breakdowns or disgruntled angry employees that may or have abandoned equipment. I asked about their pay schedule and what drivers average after fuel this is what they sent me , english speaking company ,clean Safer DOT score and they have 12 2016-2018 trucks.. They pay you after every delivery if paper work is submitted by 12pm otherwise it's on the card the next day, so budgeting will come to mind. As far as the fuel, They seem to average 3-5 loads a week , correct me if I am wrong but it would seem 1 of the 3 loads basically goes to fuel and then the rest will be money in the pocket ...

This is still dangerous and dosent fix your verifiable experience issue....suck it up fix that and the world is your oyster....that is less than a lot of companies are paying right now on a W-2 without the risk.....just a for instance truck has an issue fuel cost doubles now you pay for that and no breakdown pay or hotel while in a shop....and it looks good while rates are good but this guy is living and will die on load boards expensive new equipment this is a highly levaraged position a 25% drop in rates and this deal hurts you and could put him under

It’s not worth it. Let’s say you haul a load 750 miles that pays $2000. Your 45% is $900. Your fuel will be $300 or so, so now you’re down to $600. Now you’re down to driving for 30 cents a mile and oh yeah, you get to pay all the taxes on your 45%, less your deductions for fuel.

OP, you want to justify a decision or advice?

Won't justify your decision but advice, walk away.

ANY carrier that makes YOU pay for fuel without YOU owning the truck, is a cheap POS company.

    Go for it OP,
That's what you want to hear anyway.
You'll make a killing on 1099 and paying
    For the fuel.
No way this doesn't end bad.

    And that 1000 bucks escrow.
Sounds to me like your gonna be paying
For any repairs on the truck that they
    Deem necessary.

    This is a dirtbag outfit.
You won't make half as much as a student at swift.

As other's have said, 45% with you paying all of the fuel is no deal. All these guys are doing is repackaging a cheap offer for employment by offering you a percentage, but a low one with fuel. You'd be better off going with a regular company as a w-2 employee.

I fell for a cheap deal once and will never again. Guy offered me a flat salary for line haul between point A and B just drop and hook. By week 2 I was doing point A to B to C to D to E and loading/unloading my own trailers, and making customer deliveries in Colorado in the dead of winter. Never again.
