dot pulled us over and did a level 1 inspection and one of our low beam headlight was out. got a citation for it. how are the points will be assigned to her (my girl was driving) from the company. if she did pretrip and the headlight went out while she was driving then it wouldnt matter, still recieve points for it ? would the points effect a driver greatly ? should we be packing up and ready to get send home and stop trucking all together ?

Unfortunately as a driver you are still responsible for your truck while in operation. Same with tires. THIS is why one reason I always tried to go no more then 90 minutes driving without getting out and looking at my truck.Omega7777 Thanks this.

hope it is minor and really not big of a deal. that is what we were told by safety

I personally feel that's some pretty drastic thinking. Being sent home and quitting driving altogether for getting popped due to a low beam light out is a bit much. There will be points, but it shouldn't be a SERIOUS impact. It's kind of ##### isn't it? You could do like Moose and get out every 90 minutes to make sure everything is in proper working order, and that's probably a good idea, but sometimes time won't allow it depending on how hard you're running. Sometime it's just the luck of the draw. You could do a good pre-trip and then get popped an hour down the road for something that you checked, that appeared, at the time, to be in good working order. #### happens on the road and when it comes to these trucks, DOT will find something, somewhere, if they are REALLY wanting to.SingingWolf, Trucker61016 and Omega7777 Thank this.

In my case I was also getting my butt out of that seat. DVT is a serious problem. I have brought it up many times in here. I agree that sometimes you no matter how much you want you can't get out. However it is healthier to do so and just maybe you will see something that needs fixed. Years ago I did this before crossing scales in California, Ohio or Virginia!

just joking a bit but yea, california is now in my hate list. 4 times in 2 months went there and pulled in 3 times for inspection...Trucker61016 Thanks this.

While I belive you the light was working when the shift was started... (Why would one lie here?)
Gotta see if from the officers side. They see the same truck driving by with lights out for several days at a time (before they get the opportunity to pull them over) and when pointed out the driver says "Oh, that was working during my pre-trip" Sucks when it happens but not much can be done.
As for consequences it will go against the company's CSA score for 6 points (tripled on first year). It will be on the driver PSP report too. Think is, it's just a single equipement violation. It will only start to become an issue if it keeps happening.Last edited: Aug 29, 2018
