Well.... Made it through 3/5 of the deliveries before I saw this, and I'd had the foresight to do everything except call each place. But you're right, even the ag centers didn't seem to know that I was showing up.
I pulled into one place and realized that my cab was facing the dock. The "dock?" a pile of dirt and gravel with railroad ties in the front of it and some steel poles painted yellow as our guides and probably also to hold the railroad ties up. Fortunately there was also a path around behind the dock that let me make a U-Turn and setup quite easily to back into the "dock." I wish more "docks" were this easy.
All in all I have enjoyed this load. I love traveling across I-80 in Pennsylvania. @Steelersjunkie since I know you're a native to here, I have to tell you that you have a beautiful state, even if the roads are sometimes unfriendly to trucks. I would have enjoyed this load more if I'd had a full clock so I could have gotten all 5 stops done today. But I started the day with only 7:38 on my 70, and I got in 3 stops and a total of 381 miles. I'm not very far from #4 so I hope to get them knocked out pretty early in the a.m. I'm kind of concerned about the final, since there's no directions in the QC, but I will probably call them in the a.m. and get directions from the source.Suspect Zero Thanks this. -
Actually sir, I'm from Ohio
I agree though, it's a beautiful state. Very unfriendly for trucks though. My last load picked up in PA and it was an absolute navigation nightmare trying to get a legal path in. Word to the wise... there are a lot of restricted roads in that state that show as legal truck roads in the atlas. Do your homework when venturing into that place. I believe that my last load out may very well be my last ever, unless I can get where I need to go by major interstate. I love my Steelers, but I hate that dam state. At least in a truck.

It seems like they're really good about marking roads as restricted before you get yourself into a situation on one of them. But that still doesn't help when you don't know they're restricted while trip planning.
Rand-McNally needs to pull their heads out of their #####, and I believe some of the states do too, because they're the ones that supply R-M with the information that they use to determine which routes are truck routes.
I would really like to see one of you guys make a trip down WV-74 in a 4-wheeler. Because I know you'll say "They say STAA trucks are okay on this road?!"
My trainer told me that we aren't allowed to take US-52 between Huntington, WV and Bluefield, WV. I can see why. While coal tractors and food service trucks use that road every day, I can see where it would be scary as hell for somebody pulling a 53' trailer that's not familiar with the area, especially Horsepen Mountain. I grew up in that area and I'm not even sure if I would want to try to tackle that mountain with a road tractor and 53' trailer. Very steep and switchback after switchback. I think some of the switchbacks even have switchbacks. -
Whatever their issues are, I'm writing them off. Winter's coming anyhow, so I'm done with PA for now. That state changes things and doesn't really broadcast it. That's not all on the mapmakers. That's on the state. Publish that crap so the rest of us can adapt. At this point I'd rather go through Atlanta or Chicago than PA. I think I'm done with them unless it's a desperation load. Until the powers that be in PA figure out a way to be halfway intelligent, they can find another driver to move their freight. F U Pennsylvania.

Well, time to eat my words. I have stated multiple times (as have others) that you'll never do a 90 degree dock in the real world. I guess there's a first time for everything. Holy moley this place is tight.

I kinda like getting those 5 stoppers from Horicon. No, it’s not worth our time for the pay but I thoroughly enjoy talking and bs’in with the dealers. Best one one I’ve had yet took me across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel. Lots of little podunk bars and grills up through there that welcome truckers to do their 10. Great food and really cold beer.
