    So physical work is abuse?

I’m tired of just sitting behind the wheel, shifting gears, slamming doors, & getting fat!
Now I’m no where close to one of those fat slobs that y’all see climbing into the trucks to where the cab leans heavy to one side, but I have gained a belly. So my thought process is if I go tossing boxes around, it’ll break the manotony up from looking out of the windshield & give me a little bit of exercise too.

    Radman Thanks this.

Never said work was bad, or that sitting for 10 straight was the goal. But foodie work is a killer. "Tossin boxs?" Talk to mike about food service. That kid is hustler but best believe he works for that change hes gettin. Theres plenty of mixed drive/work gigs other than. Im a fan of flatbed work myself. And now your getting a little more defined. So its not just money, but variety and some exercise to go with that well earned income.... ;)

Run open fun, different daily and some exercise. And most flats pay much better than a box

@ApeHangerGod i was recently in a similar situation as you where I could pack up and relocate anywhere in the country for the right job. I think I’ve found my last employer. It’s in Michigan if you have any interest let me know. I will give you more details

I pulled flatbed for 14 years OTR & 2 years local. I’m burnt out on it.

That’s great! But Michigan doesn’t interest me. Minnesota is home. Although I haven’t been there outside of driving through since I started trucking. And I thinks it’s time to go home & settle down.

Why I left a cozie Linehaul gig. Those long nights of driving 580 miles all night 5 days a week while physical easy is mentally draining. Your just as tired as if you lumped a trailer full of food. Plus having to be strict on the diet to keep it the weight off. I started at 39 now I’m 40 and still digging it at Mclane Foodservice. Wisconsin needs driver real bad also. Might check that out. They are the most short handed in our system.

I ain’t gonna sugar coat the work. It’s alot more work goes into it. You’ll think holy crap what did I get myself into. A lot of city driving and maneuvering. You’ll hone your skills in. Ever see a 48ftr bust a u turn in a Taco Bell parking lot? That’s the fun I do. You’ll make great money but the guy sitting on his butt all night running linehaul is making the same.

Good friend worked at Sysco said they moneys there. Senior guys make 100k+ He left cause he didn’t like how unorganized it was in Denver. I think it varies terminal to terminal. Talk to a old timer still moving boxes for Sysco in South Dakota. He was just ditty bopping along at his own pace. Told me no one wants to do this job anymore. Looked in good shape for his age.

Sysco I think revenues at like 55 billion only 10 billion behind UPS. So the company wise they are a power house.

If your going the Foodservice route I think you have the right mindset for it to make it a good career which ever route you go.

I’m running a spotter truck now at a major auto manufacturer. Been doing it a couple years now. So I know all about maneuvering & backing trailers. And a couple weekends a month, I run a daycab locally for a few extra dollars.
Believe it or not, in a 12 hour shift on the spotter truck I walk 6-7 miles a day from the front of the trailers to the back to open up the doors, then back to the front of the trailer.
Earlier this year I flew to Minneapolis, landed during the April snow storm, & drove to St Cloud, MN. I did interview with Sysco there. And I do know what they pay, and it’s hourly. In fact, it was at that time $5 more an hour then what I was making at the time. $4 more now. I ended up withdrawing my application because I decided to wait until my son graduates high school. No sense in switching schools in his senior year.

But at the same time, I’m still continuing to research companies & land prices.
