Well, be certain that they do now! My husband was random picked one day at Lincoln, NE to do a drug test. They told him to come to office without telling him why. Thank goodness it was only that. lol

They do drug tests at orientations too.

    Pine,
I am looking at the quote you've posted from RickG, do my old tired eyes deceive me or is the year I see 2006? I've been living in the future! All this time I thought it was 2009 and we were going forward not looking back. Pleeeze correct me if I'm wrong LOL:biggrin_25525:

I have enjoyed reading every post on this thread. I worked for Crete from June 2006- June 2008 and have run many of those loads out of High Springs,FL. On their SE Regional Fleet. This accident has been on my mind ever since starting with Crete and has been a strong reminder of my responsibilities as a driver. While there as a driver trainer I heard every rumor pertaining to that terrible accident in Florida. I can say that since the accident Crete has made safety a high priority. They have lost many "experienced" drivers in the process because of their new safety views. The Safety Department consist of a group of professionals that do care for the public we share our highways with. I have been unable to deliver a load due to HOS regs, sent Q-Com msg and received different load offers. Crete's dispatch has NEVER forced me to "take a load or else". This industry as in life will always have those few whom refuse to follow regulations. Crete does their best to get the message across and some drivers just don't receive it. With more than a decade OTR experience I have seen and heard alot. RickG Thanks for the links to the "Facts" of this sad accident. Luvtharoad keep working on that backing, you'll get it. Nice to read that the industry still employs a handfull of intelligent drivers. On a final note I'll leave you with this. Crete may not be the best OTR company out there but they are still much better than many companies. They are making the effort towards safety perfection. Do they achieve that? Who knows... At least they're trying and thats good enough for me. I Drive local now, but if I had to return OTR Crete would be one of the companies on my very short list of potential employers. Be safe and Peace to all.

    luvtheroad Thanks this.

What a great post! Probably one of the most positive ones I've read for awhile. Thanks!
Yes, I'll learn to back and I'll be learn to be good at it simply because it will be part of my job requirement. Thanks for the boost of confidence.
Your points about Crete just reinforce my thoughts about them. I've done my homework and used all the available resources. When you put them up against most of the existing carriers, they are far ahead on everything. The Crete drivers that I know have been with the company many years and are realistic about Crete and the economy, so those are who I listen to.
It used to bother me about things that were said on here, then I realized that SOME people who used this to vent would never express their views anywhere else... Like talking with a terminal manager or someone else in management to air grievences or find out things they need to know. Kind of like sitting in the drivers' room or standing around the water cooler.
Take care and enjoy local driving. :biggrin_25525:

I've been w/ Crete for about 7 months, and have never been asked to do anything illegal. If I don't have the hours, they offer a different load. I did get dinged once for bring 15 min over my 14hr even though I noted it as no safe place topark on my log.

    Hatley and luvtheroad Thank this.
