Truck fishtailing problem

If it is the New tires it will go away in about 8 or 10 thousands miles

 

I would bet that the new tires are what he's feeling. will go away eventually as they get some miles on them.

 

The tread pattern looks a lot like the Yokohamas I installed last December. I never had anything close to the OP's experience.

One thing I did was have Centramatics put on all the drive axles. I did that because of the bad cupping and hopping on the mismatched set of drives from when I bought the truck. The ride and performance from day one has been great. The tires are wearing evenly.

I did have new leaf springs installed on the steer axle (adding an extra 3/4" shims to the right side) along with a three axle alignment. Since then steering has been neutral, when it used to require hard left pull to stay straight.

I run my Yokohamas at 100 psi.

 

How deep is the new tire tread? Brand new 1 inch tread depths are real icy feeling for about 40,000 miles. This what I've been told by a coworker who had brand new good year 632 or 562 model tires. Most new smart way tires are 22/32 tread when new.

 

My Yokohamas were 33/32" to start. I never felt like there was any loss of control when I first started driving them, rather I felt far more stable.

I'm thinking his fishtailing (which I had) might be related to his suspension system and alignment. But the OP already noted he had not one, but two alignments and added work.

OP, how old are your shocks?

Yeah, new tires feel a little squirmy for a few thousand miles.

 

I put a set of Yoko Luggers on when they first got into Truck tires. They had a full inch of tread. I heard they only make 30/32s now. Don’t really know. But I tell you I actually turned around and went back thinking I had a Loose wheel. That was on a rock solid bolted to the ground 92 western Star. They just laughed and reassured me it was normal. I had to try to ignore it till they wore in a bit.Everything that’s been said should be checked as the tires may be adding to an existing problem.If you need rear spring bushings check out Atro brand anti- walk polyurethane bushings available at Fleetpride for about same price as OEM
