I’m picking up a heavy load. The nearest scale is after the nearest weigh station. I’ll do my best to ballpark the tandems and pray but what if I mess it up and have to hit the WS before I can scale? Will DOT bust me or will they understand?

Might look for a Moving and storage company in the area and scale it out? If you are overweight when you hit the WS, youll probably get a ticket? If its too much over, you may even have to unload some of it?

It depends on their mood. They can do whatever they want. I've been in scale houses before and overheard drivers getting tickets as they complain that there was no place to weigh.

Find the nearest scale without going pst a weigh station. Let your dispatch know and they should pay you for the extra miles

One of the worst places to pick up a heavy load is Kimper Kentucky.
I’ve picked up several 45 plus thousand loads of Pop Tarts there and they all went to Atlanta.

Or find a back road and take it instead.

Go the opposite direction and find a place to weigh or a road to dodge the scales.
Where I live there's lots of construction going on, new roads, new condo's, a new Cotsco, etc. and the Nevada DOT sits right where the construction trucks are leaving the property with loads of dirt & rock and weighs them with portable scales and also does DOT inspections. It's all about the money.

How heavy are you? How far is it loaded to back of the trailer?

    Oldironfan Thanks this.
