I agree, having said that, I watched the news footage and it looks like the driver side steer tire is off the rim but intact. You would think if it blew, it would have disintegrated but it didn’t. Maybe it did blow out but it’s hard to understand how it resulted in this. I would say driver incompetence/inattention at least contributed even if the tire did blow out.

The median is downhill it appears. If he blew the left it probably pulled him down and the grade did the rest. Once you are off you aren't going to wrestle a semi out of the dirt in a valley. With automatics some have become casual about driving. I dont always keep two hands on the wheel, but I do in curves and tough terrain.

most far left lanes and far right lanes (or the shoulders) always have a certain amount of dirt on them, making them "slippery" of sorts.....

Look at the truck front. Both steers are intact. 2018-08-31 09_30_54-NMSP_ 7 killed in Greyhound bus, semi crash on I-40 _ KOB 4.png

Ive seen better pictures than this one. The picture I saw showed the driver side steer tire off the rim but intact. Another picture looked like there was damage to that tire as well. It may have blown but it shouldn’t have resulted in this.

Yes but from this angle you can see one is no longer seated

But that could easily have occurred when he hit the median hard and fast.

This is what I though. Have seen a lot of trucks on the side of the road with steer blows. Completely different picture

It doesn't say if the driver survived this, or which tire blew. I just had a front right tire go out on my car the other day, on relatively new tires... The sidewall just burst. I didn't hit anything, or see any damage on it before this.
