So my last day at current job is Monday, and I start my CDL course at ATDS in Waco on Tuesday. I've started putting in applications to attempt to get prehired by a LTL company. Unfortunately, I've hit a snag on the Old Dominion application. I was able to put in my schooling into with graduation date and GPA as "to be determined" , however the next section asks for experience, date range, and miles driven for Straight truck, tractor and semi trailer, doubles, triples, and tankers. It will not accept my application without something in these fields. What would be an appropriate response to this section for someone in my position? Should I put in no experience with a date range of todays date to todays date and 0 miles? Or put down experience with what I know the school trains on with class date range?

Also have been doing research into linehaul bidding process and terminal locations. Would I be correct to assume that, with all other variables being equal, working at a terminal that just opened last year would be a quicker path to seniority/better bid than one that has been around for awhile?

That’s what I’m asking, sir. Sorry I’m new to this. I don’t want to put in the wrong thing on an app and get disqualified on a technicality so I’m asking those with more experience than myself. Regardless of what I put on experience and miles driven, I have to put in a date range for each.

Call OD, talk to a recruiter and ask.

since you are doing this application ONLINE, it'll either ACCEPT IT...or DENY IT..

    can't you just try it..???

Before original posting, I had tried just putting N/A with 0 miles. It denied the application. The fields for date ranges are drop down boxes that require the selection of actual day/month/year. I will call OD soon and find out for sure.
Edit: Left a message for Jessica Vargas, OD recruiter(at least that's who operator transferred me to). Will see when/if she calls back.

What do you mean by "get prehired?"

Do you mean get a prehire letter, like the Megas give?

Really good companies like OD don't do that. They have a regular hiring process that involves the application, then an interview, road test and piss test. Then if the terminal manager likes what he sees, he sends your app off to the corporate offices for further review of your background... then, if it's all kosher you will get an offer.

Kick ### in school, get all your endorsements and get your hazmat started (asap... OD won't hire you without this) and a couple weeks before graduating submit the application (with your school as your most recent experience) and call the OD terminal manager and tell him of your interest.

Yes sir. I'm a previous thread, a heavy load member recommended i submit applications ahead of time to attempt this. Seeing as I'm not sure if motel I'll be staying at has Wi-Fi, I'm trying to get them all submitted before I go. I've read on here that hiring process for OD is longer than most, so another reason I'm submitting early. Kicking butt in school is a given, and I plan on making calls and showing up at terminals as soon as I get CDL with endorsements in hand. Background and piss/follicle test will be all clear. The 4 weeks of this class is going to be the longest I've been unemployed for 15 years. Don't want it to be any longer than neccessary.

Lone star plz note my edits. It's too soon to apply to OD... apply after you start school and and put your school as as your current employer and driving experience. Get hazmat started right away. You need it to work at OD
