    Mississippi has a very pro gun Governor who used to be a cop. He tried to protect the heritage of the state, and he told Bernie Sanders we don’t need you down here when he was trying to unionize Nissan. Any political issues here are usually brought up by outsiders from others states claiming racism (Civil War statues, rebel flags etc) Nice 3000 square foot houses can be had for $300k, hardly any traffic, awesome food and some really good public schools.

    The heat in the summer can be rough, but last year we only had a few days below freezing and maybe two or three days of snow. Car haulers running out of the Canton plant can make $100k easy and be home every other day. I’ve been a lot of places and I like living here, there is only one or two other places I would live.

    That girl probably hated guns just like your family. Now she sees how important they can be. Obviously I needed one being in law enforcement, but I am amazed at the reasons people come up with to not carry one or have one nearby.

    My wife was trying to rationalize reasons to not keep one in her car, kids, what if it gets stolen, etc? So I bought her a microvault safe that tethers to the seat with a steel cable and has a four digit combination with button shaped like a handprint for those high stress times you can’t rely on dexterity. Fits under the seat, no one can steal it without a hacksaw, 20 gauge steel to keep people from prying it open. Got her one for the house too. Better to have it and not need it than to end up like the girl you talked about.

    That's one of those things that I just can't seem to comprehend. Gives me a headache to even think about it. How do you go to someone else's neighborhood and complain about their neighborhood? You don't live there, you have your own house, why are you concerned with this? And then this fool comes to your house to complain about your house.

    "Ummm, GTFO is the answer. What's your question?"

    I told the girl that even if she gets her CCW, that she should STILL seek training. You don't want to be one of those persons who had something that they cannot use effectively. For me, the biggest danger where I am most likely to be attacked is when I get out of the truck.

    I was at that TA a couple months ago in Montgomery (craphole 30 years ago, craphole today). The restaurant is nasty. They have those big ####roaches in there. Well they did the last time I was in the restaurant, and they act like it's no big deal. Well, I got out of the truck ans walked over to the Awful Waffle. This kid was walking down the road, changes his trajectory towards me. I know when someone is coming for me. I stop, pivot right. He's close. Left hand draw of the EDC knife. Right hand on the Taurus. He never saw the blade, but he knew I was ready. He stops 3 yards away, "Ummmm, excuse me sir, ummmm....". I shake my head NO.

    "Paranoid, Six?"

    About getting jacked? Nope. I'm ready.

    BTW, @shogun, have you ever seen this series?

    A lot of the guys in this series are like you and me, with previous experience. A lot of the wives have no experience. I think it's an interesting show. As in everything, it's the little tips that can make the difference. The guy took a hit to the face

    I should look into a safe like that for the house. We have a gun safe, but it would be too late if one needed to get into it in time of need. We used to keep loaded handguns in the night stands, but will not take the risk now that we have grandkids.

    Where we live it is a given that most every house has firearms, which I believe adds security to our area. Fortunately, with the exception of the time when I was trucking to Los Angeles during the Rodney King days, I have never felt the need to carry, but thank God we live where we can each make that choice.

    You can find them online about $80-90. They have a biometric version for $150, but that is unnecessary to me with millions of combinations froma 4 digit code and the ability for a lot of people to be able to put in a combination and get the gun if necessary. (Family members)

    @TripleSix

    I’ve never seen that series. The man should slice the pie, keep his face concealed and shoot right through that wall the actor was using to conceal. In this situation he didn’t have tactical advantage because the actor knew exactly where his bedroom was, normally the homeowner has that advantage. And he has no escape route the way his house is set up, he can be pinned down in that hallway.

    As far as people approaching me, I always have that I want to knock your teeth down your throat look when I see them. It’s just like you said “um excuse me sir, or I don’t mean no harm” timidly.

    I should add that all kids in Idaho that want to hunt are required to go through our Hunter's Education Program that teaches gun safety, among other things. Our son really enjoys hunting, but our daughters never took interest in it. All of them went through course though because where we live it is inevitable that they will be exposed to firearms, and we wanted them to all be comfortable with them. We felt that it is important that our kids respect firearms without being afraid of them.
