Thanks for the info. Are these engines typically not a real smooth engine at 1700 plus RPMs?

I have always felt that they are quite smooth up to 2100. In my experience the power starts to fall off above 1800.

I wonder if you are due for a new vibration dampener?

I agree with @Oxbow. My 7FB is smooth all the way through. Varys with governor springs when fuel starts cutting back. What is Max rpm no load in neutral?

I'd go with a viscous damper if it has old rubber one on it.

Both my B models are smooth. My 86 is a 7FB my 91 is a converted PEEC with a 7fb pump. Like @Oxbow said you can twist them up but they don't pull well till they fall to 1800 or so. I am gonna say damper or timing if it's got some shake in it

SP, max rpm in neutral is about 2000rpm.

Should be around 2300 with a good known tach. Sounds like might be a 1800 RPM governor spring. We can look it up by s/n if you want.

Here are test results and performance data to give you idea on exhaust temps from pyro to manifold difference. It is run of the mill 425/1450 with 2332 RPM no load/2100 RPM load. Good ol workhorses that I would take over a new emissions crap any day of the week! Vibratech seems to be a good damper. Made in the USA. Put a viscous one on it.
