Humans really are sheep and share very similar behaviors. It's evident even in traffic patterns on the road, lines in stores etc etc. Schools also help foster this mentality. Think about what most schools actually "teach" kids. Don't be different. Repeat everything we tell you. Never question authority. It's a recipe for walking dead. The following video says it all.

Incredible. I'm one of those people that get confused why every time the weather man says bad weather is coming, why everyone runs to the grocery store to buy up all the milk and eggs. I asked my mom, and she says, "That's what we do."
I understand that. I dont understand the WHY part.

And that whole Black Friday thing. And Christmas carol bombardment from September to Dec 26.

Addiction is a nasty problem that some have, started out wanting something so much it is all the mind thinks about and then the reward was received, ah pleasure. Then it moved to another object and another. The receptors in the brain have been trained to seek pleasure, any pleasure. They have companies set up now to deal with addiction.

I learn alot in the restaurants. I watch. Lots of guys don't want to be bothered. They order their food to go, in and out. That person that comes to sit next to you, he has a motive. Most of them that sit next to me do so because they see me interacting with the waitresses. And so, they want my spot. So, when I start either cutting up with the waitress or engage her in conversation, he's going to try to butt in.

No, I have not. Maybe I look interesting? I tend to keep to myself in public, don't put out the approachable vibe at all. Sure, I get friendly with the wait staff, so that may be it.

I don't mind. Met some really good people in the restaurants. But some of the guys that come into the truckstop restaurant are the locals, they may or may not be drivers...they see a guy like me interacting with the waitresses, they dont like it.

I tend to just assume everyone else is exactly like me. I hate it when people approach me in public so I just leave everyone else alone. Maybe I'm the weird one?

The guys that want my spot will normally sit across from me or to my left. They will not speak to me until I speak to the waitress. Every time I speak to the waitress.

They always say that. I guess I really don't understand. What does "everyone else" have to do with you? Peer pressure. Yeah, that's it...peer pressure. Do your 'peers' say, "Hey, if you don't shoot up this heroin or this stuff I made in the basement toilet, I'm not going to be friends with you"?

I'm wondering if the same mentality is used when a driver says, "my dispatcher forced me to drive tired/illegal." I've never had that conversation with any dispatcher. See, in my mind, that like McDonalds saying, "If you don't eat a BigMac, you will be banned from McDonalds for life!" Now, someone may reason, "Six WHAT IF McDonalds was your favorite restaurant?" Where did I eat before I ever went to McDonalds?

When my little sister started driving, I told her when she was at school to 1.) avoid the village idiot (every class has one) 2.) avoid the negative talk. She called me the first day and told me about the village idiot who never shuts up while the instructor tries to teach. Yep, that's the idiot. Avoid him.
Well, she started driving for FedEx. Gravy job, she runs between the airport and Amazon twice a day, and sits and waits while the trailer is getting loaded. Good job, pays decent (6hrs a day, $800/weekM-F), drop and hook. A few weeks in to the job, she starts telling me how the other drivers don't like the boss. Why are you talking to other people about your boss, and you have the easiest job in Driverdom? Next thing you know, she's talking about quitting.
She found another company that paid slightly more money($1000/wk), for 4 hours a day more, 1099 AND she has multiple stops and has to fingerprint a couple of the stops.

What just happened? How did you end up in this situation?

"Well, everyone else was talking about how bad things were..."

And you're the one that quit the easiest trucking job the world has ever seen. Where is everyone else at? Still at FedEx. Is Peer Pressure really that strong? I had no idea! Perhaps, I am seeing things wrong, because it absolutely makes no sense to me.

Agree 100% with your sister’s story. It’s amazing how other people’s negativity can affect your own outlook on a job that you really liked...
