Hopper is miserable. I don't know what it's like driving for a company....but as an O/O; with hopper, you are paid by weight---so I used to run on an eighth of a tank of fuel (because I didn't get paid to haul fuel....I got paid to haul product)---I was ALWAYS at 80,000 gross, because I got paid by the ton.
You DO get pretty good at "eyeballing" the product (both amount and placement)---there IS a trick to it. However; it doesn't move as much as 379exhd would have you believe (takes a pretty hard fast brake'n forward or back to shift the product enough to change your axle weights).

And any/all "meals" stick. Prepare to clean out your trailer by any means necessary after hauling it.

P.S.- You hopper guys, stop cleaning out your remnants on the side of the exit/entrance ramps and in truck stops....show some class.

Our piles usually moved when it was fertilizer the occasional wheat load but usually fertilizer when it was loaded off an auger instead of being loaded overhead like catoosa does. We were legal after leaving a couple times and after weighing at a cat scale before fueling yep we were over. It happens at times. Also if you're under gross but over on axles that shovel is a life saver. I loaded a couple bean loads out of an elevator was put me heavy on axles and coulved been evened out. There is a science to it and you are right it takes time and experience. Too many drivers load off the gauges. I was fortunate enough to have a truck with no gauge and a tandem trailer with no needle learned the old school way and truth be told sometimes I think its more accurate than those gauges.

Been here 4 years now and couldn't be happier. Always drive new equipment that is well maintained. 2 days home for every week out. You can easily make 70,000 plus here. Treat you like a person not a number. Any more questions just ask.

Haven't been around here for a while but wanted to give an update. 7 years here and everything is still going great. Starting pay is now.55cpm. They raised layover, breakdown, and holiday pay to 225 dollars a day. Detention Is 21 dollars a n hour. My miles are consistent and the equipment is great. I really am treated well here.
