I stopped at some mom and pop truck stop off of I68 somewhere in western Maryland many years ago, late at night. A couple pumps, small dirt lot full of ruts... but with a 24 hour restaurant, with real home cooked comfort foods. I remember I got a salad ... biggest, tastiest and most unhealthy salad I've ever had. Just loaded with stuff, topped with French fries and chicken tenders... anyone have any idea where I'm talking about?

Wilton Travel Plaza, I-87 x16, Gansevoort, NY....

    And Scotty's Reataurant located therein....

In 2002, they still had a fuel island attendant.

Hillbilly Hideout on I-40 exit 35 in Ozark Arkansas. Everybody's real nice that works there, it's clean, and they have a really fantastic restaurant! Best catfish I've had in a long time. Next time I stop I'm getting the frog legs. Can't recommend this place enough! I was really impressed!

Back many years ago when I was owner-op and lived in Huntsville, AR, I used to regularly run down hwy 23 (Pig Trail Scenic Byway now) that dumps out there to get to/from 40 and the Carolinas. Heavy, 48 foot flatbed, middle of the night, foggy, raining, near icing, made no difference. I had to get home or get to work. I guess I was an idiot then. That and the old US 71 through Mountainburg if headed to Houston. Good times, though.
