Most drivers with three years experience usually do make at least $50,000. I’m sorry you worked for Werner, but they are the bottom of the bottom.
I have 8 years experience, and average close to $28 an hour (I’m salary). I’m home everyday (work nights), and off on weekends. My company struggles to keep drivers as it is..but I don’t feel poor and feel that I am paid well.
Say you make $800 per week and work 12 on, 2 off. Say you make 37 cpm, only get 2,100 miles per week and get $20-$30 in other pay. You don’t actually work 70 hours, odds are that you average 50 hours per week since you aren’t getting that many miles. If you worked 70 hours per week, and were out 2+ weeks at a time, that would mean you’d have to take a reset on the road, but at least that should mean well over 2,500 miles per week.
But, again, 70 hours per week is not the actual average. We’ll use 55 hours though for the $800. That comes to $14.50 per hour straight time. Good pay? Hell no. But, it is way better than an $11-$12 an hour fast food job with no benefits.
BEWARE of WERNER!!!
