S&S Transport

I've been quite the lurker for a number of months on these forums. I decided I would come out of my shell and post my experience.

I started off at CRST. I made it 2 months and that is a story for the bad companies section.

Before I left CRST, I took a chance on a pocket card I picked up at a truck stop. Researched S&S Transport a few days before calling. I talked with Brian, the recruiter, who made it sound way too good to be true. I ended up applying because nothing could be worse than CRST.

I am so very happy I did.

Brian was not pulling the wool over my eyes. To start with, paid orientation, flat pay training. They are very thorough assessing your skills and competence before they put you in your own truck. I was very impressed!

They are a smaller, family owned place. 120 trucks. The CPM is not beatable with 2 months of experience, for me anyways. Health insurance, vacation, 401k, etc..

They are pet friendly, and we joke about putting a mini horse in my truck with me. I get to take my cat/dogs regardless of size.

I was put in a beautiful 2019 Kenworth with 37k miles. I have company paid Directv, an APU, an inverter, and i dont have to worry about weigh stations or tolls.

The miles are here. My first week solo i did almost 3,600 miles, with no pressure, and no one constantly "looking over my shoulder", yet when i had any questions they were right there for me a phone call away. I am in my second week driving here, and have yet to sit and wait any astronomical amount of time for my next run. I am constantly putting miles on my truck. They expect a minimum of 2,400 miles a week, and have plenty more if you want them.

I actually love it here so much, I am in the process of relocating from Arizona up to North Dakota to be closer to the yard for home time.

I knew that the trucking industry couldn't all be like the first company, and I am so glad I made the switch. A happy driver is a motivated driver!

Thanks for letting me add this, I'm quite shy, even online, but I had to give S&S Transport props, because they restored my faith in a career I love doing!

 

I'm originally from South Dakota, and I miss it, even the bitter cold lol. For me, it's a little slice of heaven...now my husband on the other hand, can't wait to see how he likes his first winter!

I'm nervous about driving in the snow and ice, but I think that comes with the territory of being an OTR driver=)

Wow, you go way back lol. I was still in diapers=) I've heard a lot of good things about the family, I couldn't ask for a better family company to work for.

 

You got it! I had 2 months of verifiable experience OTR. I do believe they will recruit out of schools and help with information about a school near them. I'm not super sure, so dont take my word on that. I dont want to give out any misinformation.
