Just got a new peterbilt in january, has the tri-pak on it. Has anyone had any (major) problems with the thermo king units? Mine quit working about 2 weeks ago, due to a broken connection at the altanator on the apu. Fixed now, thanks to warranty work at a thermo king dealer.

but I have had the alternator connection problem 3 times now.
Im company driver and dont have to worry about repair bills... but it is annoying having the down time to get it taken care of. -
had mine 2.5 yrs. lost freon 4 times. they cant find leak. works for about 4 months then quits. had alt wire problem once.
-
I had the leak too... they couldnt find it either, until I had some Ice and snow build up on it. Looked like a cherry snow cone was building up near the leak.
-
where was the leak ? im thinking mine is compressor seals

The first truck I had with the Tri Pack would not cool enough.....I was sitting donw in El Paso, TX...90 degrees outside APU would only get the truck down to 75...So I ran it called the shope took it in they fixed it after that I had it down to 56 in the truck when it was 85 outside......

Wanting to do an oil change on my tri-pak and this is the first one i've ever had/used. There is almost 9000 hrs on the clock and I have no idea the last time it was done by the previous owner. Does any one know what brand and weight of oil Thermo King / Yanmar recommends in their engines and how much is need for an oil change?

Just like Webastos they will last longer when you use them once or week even if you don't need them. If you don't use an A/C unit the seals gradually dry out and leak and you'll never get rid of all the leaks later.

I have nearly 12,000 hours on my APU. Lessee... a couple of fuel leaks, coolant leak up in the corner where the hose comes into the unit from the engine compartment - I fixed that with a new hose clamp, and the alternator failed this winter. Oh, yeah... missing screws.
Actually I love the thing, except when it isn't working. Considering the abuse it takes, it's probably a wonder that I haven't had more problems with it. -
there is a recall refit for the tripac because the wiring was routed wrong and it likes to burn through the battery cable. they tyed it to the exaust for some reson.
