Where did he tell him to bypass scale? My gosh, it was a mistake, by the shipper, and by the driver. Short haul and knowing the territory one could possibly pull a overload and get away with it. Lay off some. Sound like a bunch of old women. Cackling about what to do to the driver, and damage it did to trk and trailer. It is ok, not the end of the world. The trk and trailer are fine, no one was killed or injured and no super long lawsuits, if any. Some of you must be all knowing, and just perfect.?

Update: called and we wasn’t the only one called about a overweight ticket so far. They are making some calls and will get back to me.

It wasn't a mistake by the driver. He knew he was overweight. He chose to put his wants and needs ahead of his boss' wants and needs. If the driver was paying the fine the driver would have scaled. I assume his boss has a policy of not running overweight. Now, if the OP is the type to run a little heavy on occasion to get the job done then that's different.

I wasn't trying to jump on the "you must be an outlaw bandwagon." My post just got kinda mixed in with them. Seemed like an honest mistake to me. Do think it should have felt on the heavy side but what do I know, 45k gross feels heavy in my 11.1 320 detroit..

I guess I'm just to timid to try to skate the eld law. Technically my rig is truly exempt & I do run paper books. '93 FLD chassis with '92 detroit. I'm legal and still cringe every time they stop me on the platform. They may partially be my own doing though. Growing up I never had a good experience with the law, & prefer to interact with them as little as possible..

You are not the only one. Maryland vs Trucking with the DOT and Lawmen are not that good. Here in Arkansas the blood pressure is not bad. The law here is rather common sense rather than Nazis and it's better overall. They still nail the ones who need nailing in trucking such as running without a proper CDL etc. But they don't go over board to prosecute the whole industry.

I got a overweight ticket at the same Virginia scale. Paid ticket, weigh master said I could leave, just get it fixed before the next weigh station.
It was only a couple thousand pounds.
Axles were legal, I was over gross.

I installed a Right Weigh gauge. Same as an air gauge in line.
Works great once you learn the air pressure to weight ratio.

    Good luck

How do you know? We have all done stupid things in our trucking life, that looking back we might say " why did I do that"? Experience is a teacher, and sometimes a unforgiving one. But live and learn. If you never screwed up then just wait.

94k and he doesn't know he's overweight? Right. Sure.

He knew he was overweight and he drove his bosses truck straight to the DOT. Them are the facts. If you're going to be an outlaw at least dodge the scale.
