1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

    Transportation Worker Identification Card.
You can read all about it here; http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/twic/index.shtm
You need one if you want to get in to ports and some other places that have water access.
They do an FBI background check on you, give you an aok and you get a little credit card with your pic and a computer chip in it.
It will cost just under $150.00 and is good for 5 years.

I've been to several ports but never heard about the twic card. is that another new tax that the govt has come up with to "keep us safe from terrorists?"

like having to pay $100 for a "background check" to get the hazmat endorsement? I feel soooooooo much safer now that I KNOW for sure that I'm not a terrorist. had to pay another $92 for my concealed carry permt. next we'll have to pay a special tax to exercise our freedom of speech.

Same background check as the hazmat, you pay twice for the same thing.

I live near Wilmington,NC. I too am looking for a good local job.
My present one is not steady. I have a clean CDL, 24 years experience, HazMat, Doubles endorsement and a TWIC card, dry van and tanker experience.
I get to work tomorrow-scheduled for a $100.00 day, can't make money like this!
Maybe it's time to get out of trucking!

check with CT Transportation out of Savannah, GA. they have (or had, not sure if they still do) local deliveries out of national gypsum (delivering drywall.) this place is down at the ports. I think they also have a "fuel farm" down there too (if you want to strain your guts out hooking up fuel hoses and having 10,000 gallons of possible KABOOOOOOOOOM behind you.)

    wheelchock Thanks this.

They were not doing that before.
I don't think that is a long term position.
$13/hr with no overtime does not = $800-$1000/week.
