At first I thought the neighbor entered the cops apartment by mistake. The story reads the officer entered the neighbors apartment then shot and killed the neighbor. If the officer isn't headed for some serious prison time, what precedent will this set? Cop can enter your home, shoot you dead, claim it's an accident and everything will be cool? I hope this is updated when it's all said and done.
jsnell and bryan21384 Thank this. -
I would like to know how the cops key opened the other door. I realize there cannot be an infinite number of keys but what are the odds that Her key opened the door that she "mistook" for her own. The cynic in me thinks that this is quite implausible.

Police in this country are out of control. When we arm them to the teeth and and train them like special ops soldiers in an urban warfare zone, we shouldn't be surprised when this stuff happens. As the saying goes, when the only tool you have is a hammer then every problem starts to look like a nail.

I heard a little yesterday, apparently they had a history and they dated, witnesses say there was lots of shouting/arguing, sounds like a relationship ended and went sour.

The reason they're "armed to the teeth" and train in special tactics these days has a lot to do with what started out as gangs getting ahold of high impact weapons, and now even lone wolves can access and modify the weapons of their choice, if they know where to look. I understand the general concern about officers and even sometimes departments that are out of control, but coming from a law enforcement family, I also understand what they face today, and support them fully. I want responding officers to be able to answer back when a subject fires at them or at innocents. This isn't Mayberry anymore.BUMBACLADWAR, JonJon78, Swiss Mountain Dog and 1 other person Thank this.

I’ve lived in apartment complexes that were 3-4 stories and every landing looks alike. You climb a few floors with your mind thinking about other things, and you sometimes ask yourself did I climb one or two flights?
Just imagine if your key opened an apartment you presumed to be yours, were an armed peace officer, and there was someone in “your apartment”, in the dark, what would you do?
Don’t put it past a large apartment complex to have a lot of deadbolt locks keyed the same just because they don’t give a crap.
I’m just playing devil’s advocate with a possibility.
Regardless, this is a good reason to always keep your doors locked and properly secured beyond the typical. Consider how many trucks look the same.Last edited: Sep 9, 2018
