Hey is it really worth you doing your own oil change and filters? Or is it better to just get the mechanic to do it? Like its probally a pain getting rid of the old oil i assume?

I get 5 for the price of 3 basically. I burn my used oil.
Sirscrapntruckalot, Jazz1, Oxbow and 3 others Thank this. -
Do you want to save $150 or not? That's what it comes down to. A penny saved is a penny earned. This is one of the easiest ways to cut cost. Getting rid of old oil is no problem. It's just one of many excuses people use to justify not doing it. If you're a 1 truck guy DIY and save the money.
Leopard, HopeOverMope and MackRookie Thank this. -
Do you realize that there is a disposal fee when you buy oil? The store that sold it to you should have a free used oil drop off site.
Tug Toy and MackRookie Thank this. -
Yes I change my own oil. I have a fumoto valve which makes it super simple. If you don't have a pan big enough to catch all 11 gallons , or so, at one time, you can use multiple pans by opening and closing the valve accordingly. Also get oil nice and hot and not get burned or splattered using the fumoto valve.

Freightliner gave me a price $480 for oil and filter plus fuel filters and water seperator filter? If i get mechanic to do just oil change its $350.
Probally better to do it all byself and pay the extra 100 get the fuel filters done too. -
I go to Speedco and pay a little over $300 and that's with all fleetguard filters changed. Cummins ISX.
For me personally it's just not worth the hassle lugging the old oil back up the auto store or wherever to dispose of it.
I'd rather just pay speedco and be done and on my way in an hour.
I do grease my truck every other week myself so I'm able to still get under the truck and check everything out in case I notice something that needs a repair.bzinger and MackRookie Thank this. -
Not in your engine I hope, unless it old skool engine? Or do you mean oil stove?
-
Called freightliner they want around $600 for oil and filter fuel filters and water seperator.
So i save $120 if i do it myself so again im not sure if its worth doing it myself. 2012 csscadia -
Cost me around $150.00 with Cat filters and synthetic blend oil to do it myself. And also gives me the chance to check everything else under the truck.
Oxbow, blairandgretchen, Oldironfan and 1 other person Thank this.
