You had it made with your Mentor! Mine thought the company truck belonged to him and would not let me drive "period". However, when we go close to his favorite locations, he always found a female to accompany him to the sleeper. When we finally got back to the terminal I went straight to the Terminal Manger and said, when and if he found a driver trainer, let me know. I went home.
About two weeks later I was told a driver trainer was in my area and would pick me up on his way through. We ran team together for about three months, and two months later I got home for the first time. (Just over five months).
I stayed with that company for 18 months before departing for a better place to work (at least for a while). Something about dispatch that does not do their job or take care of their drivers and I was gone again; but I stayed 4 years and 11 months.
Stay with your training company for at least one year before you move on unless you know for sure you have a better offer. When you hear the grass is greener over the fence, check it out before you clime over.
Lots of disappointments in the trucking industry.
This was one of the worst companies when I started

I believe a Crete driver was getting wrapped up in the tangled vines of a Mt. Sterling dock not long ago. I believe it was Wal-marx. Hopefully, you'll be doing better at DOT foods.

These days any job is better than nothing. Get your experience with Swift and then go someplace respectable. Learn what you can and stay safe.

I drove for swift for about a year, i had to leave due to a death in the family. Swift isnt as bad as all these nay sayers would like you to believe. Just like any large company now a days, they have the bad apples working for them. I was based out of troudale, or and trained in lewiston, id. The school was good, I actually learned alot. It is a bit pricey but so is a private school. I'm not going to lie though, I did have my problems with them, but I am currently in the process of getting re-hired. Dont let all these guyg discourage you. If its were you want to come into the industry go ahead, im glad i did. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
road dust Thanks this.
