Yeah I guess so. Double edge sword. I don’t hardly much trust em either. Because I know my generation, we’re to busy on instagram, gossiping, trying to get social recognition and busy complaining about not wanting to work to build a motor with integrity.
There are exceptions I guess, but that 18-35 age group is almost all like that. Same reason I don’t fly on planes anymore either.Last edited: Sep 11, 2018

I'm not a mechanic. Many others on here are. I do wrench on my truck as much as I can.
Was your motor running ok, when you took it in. IF yes. how did the teeth break. Wouldn't your motor kinda run rough with teeth busted off the cam, or not at all?
IF the crank is good, why not just replace the cam shaft. I don't know the why's or why not's
Rawze has been referenced before and often as one of the go to resources on the ISX.
GOOD luck.Justrucking2 and HopeOverMope Thank this. -
I don't know nothing from nothing, but the guy I use, we were talking about which motor could be inframed infinitely, and he likes series 60's.
It's funny you started this thread though cause he said at somewhere between 1.8 and 2 million miles replace the crank.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
maybe its just me, i would replace everything at that many miles, esecially if its getting tore all apart.

I hear ya, but it’s the difference between $15,000 and $30,000...that’s a big leap. -
Yeah, I just rolled over to 1.6 million, it’s one of those ###### if you do, ###### if you don’t decisions.fargonaz and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

We figured the damage on the cam gear teeth came from a piece off a valve rocker in the front of the engine, we had one come loose and being in the front there is an oil return port that it may have slipped through onto the rocker. We don’t believe the broken teeth caused any damage to the crank. That and besides blow by and oil consumption the engine has been running smooth. Who knows, it’s a crap shoot really!!fargonaz Thanks this. -
Yes, it comes with everything inside that is mechanical, not including injectors. The cost is $21,000 quoted to me today by Peterbilt in Tyler, TX.Rideandrepair and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

I don't know motor prices. At the 30g level isn't that the price for a crate motor installed.
I'm glad it's a decision I don't have to make.
Good luck.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.
