Ok so here goes, a little over 3 years ago i plead guilty to a neg1 in the state of Washington. That is the only thing i have on my record. Ive been thinking about getting my cdl back and going back into trucking. I have prior truck driver experience and honestly the only reason i even got a neg1 was because i got spooked into taking a plea bargain and not going to trial. Later I found out that any lawyer wants you to take a plea bargain because its considered a win and well hell, mine got paid $5000 for just showing up to court twice and sitting next to me for 5min. Anyway, is it even worth getting a cdl now?
Advice???

Seems like the answer to your question is 100% personal. How much do you like truckin'? Will your initial job prospects be negatively impacted and if so, can you manage the lower pay until prospects turn brighter?

Ok you say you had a CDL?? Then why would you need a new one?? If I am not mistakein they just downgraded you to a reg license. Should just need a new med card and pay a fee at the DMV. Most companies really only go back 3 to 5 years on driving record checks. Maybe pull your own DMV and see if it shows up. Alot of companys will hire you but you have to do the leg work my friend. Pm me if you need. Also @Chinatown is the man I am sure he will chime in soon enough as well..

In Washington you only have a certain amount of time (1 year) to get your cdl back after any suspension. Otherwise its as if you never had them. So now I have to pay for a school even though it shows on all my records I had a cdl. I pulled my dac report, and my driver report and everything is perfect except that neg 1. So I was wondering if its even worth doing the whole process again if nobody will employ me for another 2 years
Thanks

For others, like me, that have no clue what a Neg1 is. It's Negligent Driving, Class 1. It's a Washington state thing as an admission of guilt for a DUI in WA is mandatory jail time. A Neg1 can be just a fine. (I guess too many people were not taking the plea bargain and making the state actually prove the crime....)
As for the op, as Neg1 is an alcohol related driving offence, I would say 5-10 years. Most ok places want to see 5 years, while good places want to see 10 years.
Also, I don't know about where you are at in WA, but Canada likely will not let you in, so if you are in an area with a lot of cross border freight you might have a harder time finding a company.
I would suggest waiting a couple years and see what the job market is then. You've already waited 3, so a couple more should not be too bad.jammer910Z Thanks this. -
In other words Negilgent Driving in the first degree is a reduction below say a DUI charge.
When you plea deal it's guilty in the eyes of the Law whatever the charge applied to you.
Also 6 months from date of conviction a ignition interlock is applied to your vehicle page two of your state's PDF
https://www.dol.wa.gov/forms/500015.pdf
If you were a good boy you can have it removed in little as 4 months. And thats all there is.
Generally states start dropping off charges, convictions etc from driving records after a certain period of years.
Trucking companies could interpret that as DUI or Careless driving etc. And that will cause you to be unhireable for a while. A work around would be to join a dump truck with three people or so who never sees a #### thing on paper other than telling you what time to show up ready to go. Provided you have the correct valid CDL etc.
If you did lose your CDL etc then you have to do it all over again as if you never had one.
There is a very limited reclaim process in some states for CDL but it is absolutely up to them. You will still have to pay the fees, take the tests and so on so forth etc. -
OK, how about we go find a cafe in realville and have a cup of coffee. Bottom line. if the OP can legally get a CDL he can find a job. There are many trucking carriers both local and OTR that will hire.
Chinatown Thanks this.
