First of all anyone that is against profiting from a disaster has never hauled disaster relief. Why shouldnt you profit? A low rate can easily put you out of business. First off you could have unexpected problems say you do a load 400 miles at $3.00 a mile sounds reasonable enough. But what if you have to got 400 miles put t GB e way due to road closures. Then once you get there you may have to wait days cause of so many tricks needing to be unloaded. Then guess what no freight is comming out within a 500 mile radius. And why wouldn't you profit on it cause I promise you the broker is. So basicky the broker is already profiting off other peoples misery. Si by you not is only putting more money in the brokers pocket. I know what FEMA pays $1000 a day just to sit you really think the broker isn't collecting that. For sandy I hauled a generator to New York 1500 miles for 6k it paid round trip cause noises coming out plus 1000 a day I made 12k in a week so I was happy going back home empty.

You can bet the lumber mills won’t be offering any discount on materials and yet truckers are expected to absorb costs while the vendors make off like bandits?
Stupid is as stupid doeslongbedGTs, blairandgretchen, dc730 and 4 others Thank this. -
Yes it's called supply and demand everything goes up why wouldn't trucking rates. You now I'm in south Louisiana. I was in the flood in 2016 1/3 if the state flooded nobody did me any favors so why should I not profit now.Doing_flatbed_nc Thanks this.

Hopefully the driver pulling from the lumber mill doesn't think it's ok to steal all the plywood and give it away. It's not noble to steal from other people, no matter the reason! (BTW, happened in FL last year, or a couple years ago.... Driver stole all the product from his company and made a huge media thing because he was amazed he got fired for it.blairandgretchen and dc730 Thank this.

We are running business, not charities. Do you think power companies are bringing in private contractors and not paying them? If so, you watch too much tv and don't understand commerce.longbedGTs, Blackshack46 and Jazz1 Thank this.

I'm curious why it matters who is paying for the loads if you're running a business, not a charity.

A buddy of mine got roped into doing relief loads during the Houston floods a few years back. I told him he would be better off just hauling regular freight and staying away from the stricken areas, but he wouldn't listen. He got sitting around forever waiting to load and Unload and succumbed to the siren song of a couple of recreational reptiles and to this day he can't hit the bathroom without screaming his head off!

What? Recreational reptiles?

Translation: his friend traded bottled water for secks and got gonoreah

For some reason i couldnt interpret that. I kept thinking crabs, but crabs arent reptiles!
