Farm/ranch trucks

Mostly beat out junk that's been retired from road use. At least that's what I see most often anyways.

 

Place I used to work for has 2 very nice KW W900L's, a somewhat beat up Peterbilt 379, and an international of some type... All are sleeper cabs, and get taken care of pretty good.

 

I think it depends on the state... In Idaho you don't need a CDL to drive a farm truck if it is registered as farm vehicle and you stay within 150 air miles of the home base... To cross state lines the neighboring state must recognise the home states farm exemption... I drove for many years under the farm exemption before I got my CDL, mostly hauling cattle and hay.

 

Some of these boys here have some cleeean hoods fer just runnin grain.

 

That's the tightwad farmers who use last year's leftover crop for seed. I know more than a few farmers who have very nice Petes and use them for harvest only and then to run grain to town when there's nothing else to do all winter.

 

Ya farming is so "tough" but a lot of the grain trucks here they use two months a year are much nicer than my truck I use all year. In Arkansas if you have farm tags you dont need a CDL. I dont know what all besides grain you could haul tho. Probably livestock

 

Yea they were making money hand over fist a few years ago when corn was darn near 7 bucks a bushel. The ones I know for the most part have older nice Petes except for the one farm bought an 07 or something when it had about 300k on the clock figuring they shouldn't ever have to do any major work to it.

 

BTO next to me runs 5 identical 379's all running half round Mac end dumps. Sit most of the year until now.
