I have read and heard that FFE does drop and hook, has to sometimes unload, and also sometimes have loads that require multiple stops like LTL. Can some of you FFE drivers inform us newbies about to join the Academy about how much of each you experience? Thanks.

Drop and hook meat loads more than anything else. Have never unloaded anything. I'm a driver not a lumper. Every so often you will have a load with an extra stop or two. You get paid a couple bucks more for the stop.

For whatever reason lately I have been assigned loads with multiple stops. These tend to be more profitable for me. I don't mind making the extra money. The only downside is falling behind appointment times due to receivers taking their sweet time unloading me.

I've done lots of drop and hooks, all for Cargill. Coincidentally all of my multiple stop loads have originated at Cargill.

I've never had to unload but I have friends who have. The driver unloads happen at prisons where the work crew prisoners are not permitted to enter the trailer.

So basically, the vast majority is no touch freight. Not really a big deal for me anyway as I unloaded reefers and dry grocery vans daily for several Walmart Supercenters as a grocery manager or associate for almost nine years. Only problem was when the shrink wrapped pallets collapse and you have to break them down and restack them on another pallet to get them out of the truck.

when I worked for ffe back in the day on the ltl side if you are a signed to a terminal you work from there and mostly multiple stop loads they have an extra board where you do a linehaul from one terminal to another and then a day or two doing regional multiple drop loads and a lot of it depends on your ability if you are a moron or lazy they give you stuff a moron can do but if you are a runner and hustle they make good $ and keep you happy

I ran solo out of FFE Lancaster for a while until Wife got trained and all up CDL. Brought her down and trained her full reefer team in two weeks flat. Soon as dispatch saw the miles pile up along with the fuel bills, they started passing us around the various ST dispatchers around the USA working as firefighters capturing late loads and running them ASAP into say Chicago. (One flower load lifted off Voss trainer and his student late 12 hours come to mind.)

Eventually we captured a McKesson Million plus dollar load of narcotics off a single inside Jessup TA. Once we discovered McKesson and how great they were, FFE was more than gracious to have us run a few more. Little did they know it set a foundation for a future with another Carrier with McKesson later that year.

If it was so good why did we leave? Well... three times we both had $0.00 paychecks in a period of about 9 weeks going into the summer of 2001 running 6000 #### near 7000 miles a week all out. We talked it over with Memphis DM on the second 0.00 check oh.. dont worry paper work snafu... third time 0.00 we turned in a two week notice with a orientation date already set with a Lease to McKesson group in Little Rock. We were on our way to Memphis with new employer by lunch that monday. Fastest orientation ever. Really profitable.

Even so I still stand by FFE back in the day. Good people. Just need to learn the national network of that company and participate in teamwork with the various dispatchers. Chicago would be our difficult if anything. They asked us to take a single off at the Detrioter and run it into Ontario during a raging Ice storm developing while we were in Erie celebrating a honest by god 2500 mile haul all the way to sunshine Phoenix. (Actually 100 degrees.)

We told off Chicago nicely no. Bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Chicago does not like no. Im sorry for that single who was late to Ontario or whatever it was. We just came out of there and ###### if we go back in there in that iceaggemon.

as far as a starter company you could do a lot worse than ffe on the ltl side . I was an owner operator Wich is somewhat different than a company driver or lease operator and probably would still be there except for kllm messing things up for owner ops. from what I've gathered kllm on the truck load side isn't any different than any of the other mega carriers. .. I broke down most of my stops just because it got you out of there a lot faster than waiting for the lumpers but you don't have too that's your choice you can sit in your truck getting fatter from no excersize and wonder what's taking them so long and wondering why you only get the crappie loads so it's your choice

FFE does all kinds of reefer work. LTL, Full truck load and sometimes custom one off hauls. (These are fun.) trying to deliver oranges for selling raffle style to raise funds for a church steeple or something. End up aiming a 53 foot vs a surburban house to unload 4 pallets into the man's garage with 30 kids as lumpers. It only takes a few minutes.

I prefer drop and hook. Such as McKesson in Memphis. Everything else is flat BS to me. No more live loading if I can help it. I don't mind being unloaded and reloaded for Memphis in 40 minutes. Were late gotta get going. No more live unloading for that matter.

Call me stubborn, set in my ways etc. Im more than happy to drop a live unload trailer in the yard for the dispatcher to waddle into the crowded drivers room to fetch one and kick him into downtown arlington dallas produce yard to unload it.
