Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
I am about to give up!

I had a felony in '96 I was 16 years old. It was for arson, eventhough it is 13 years old NO companies will hire me. Wasted 4k getting CDL
I figured that it being so old it wouldn't matter, most companies say no felonies within last 10 years, and the fact that I was only 16.
But since it was arson (I started a dumpster on fire, stupid things we do when we are young) it's a no no because of 911. -
I must be different then.I have been driving since 1986 and i have been to prison 3 times in attica state prison in NY STATE.I would have to beg to differ on this topic.
My son is working for yellow and he is a teamster in new jersey and he ''screwed'' up and did 3 years in new jersey and he is still working and driving everyday.
I no alot of people that have done time and are still driving as we speak. There are many C.D.L. holders out there in america driving still.
Dont give up and keep knocking on doors. You will catch a break.luvtheroad, Baack and leannamarie Thank this. -
It must be different, I think the economy may also have something to do with it. More people are applying so they can be more pickey about who they hire. But, this is the only reason I'm gettin turned down, every company comes back with the same, "Sorry, unacceptable background." I'll keep my head up and keep lookin

(I have NOTHING in my background except for this, no traffic tickets or anything) -
No, I went to Southern State Community College, after completing a Heavy Equepment operator School.luvtheroad Thanks this.

That's right N.Y. "Thank's for posting this"

Maybe for experienced drives it's not quite as difficult???? But for someone like me who just got my CDL it seems to be. -
yea, had the Werner recruiter today and I had a DUI in 1974 and he said too bad. Even though the pamphlet said "no dui's in five years", he said they no longer take people who have ever had a dui.
-
Bet they keep his name though and rapid-fire letters to him in a couple years when there's another shortage.
-
Since there are so many drivers with many years experience and clean records out there looking for jobs, it's only reasonable that they would be the ones chosen. It's a fact of life right now, unfortunately...
When freight picks up you should have better luck. There is no real good advice except to keep looking and don't give up. I'm be out there with all of you soon. I say, good luck to all of us and not to give up.
