The RVs are road users, too. First come, first served.
If I get to where I planned to stop and I see a caravan of RVs taking up all of the parking? Well.....as the cops always say, "You're a professional driver, you're supposed to know better".
Time to break out Plan B. Or start to formulate plan C. You got about an hour to find somewhere to roost, so gather some intel, plan, and execute.
Just another day truckin', hand.
I saw this thread on Thursday. I came back to see if it was locked yet.
Please give advice for the RV community

I'm amused by the amount of RV hate some posters have. Someone comes here and makes a good faith attempt to get input that can help another community interact with truckers, and it turns into a gripe session.
Are RV's really that much of a problem? I can maybe see a little friction when it comes to parking, but not enough to spark such hand-wringing. To be honest, I get more aggravation from truckers when I'm pulling my RV than I get from mom and pop campers when I'm in the big truck.Farmer54, Just passing by, Brettj3876 and 4 others Thank this. -
Could you have them get those things washed someplace during off hours as well.
How is RV can work all week, come home, and get out on the highway, many half in the bag, with an RV the size of a bus??
No training. No special qualifications, just a bank roll?NightWind and Creativity RV Thank this. -
I offer this.
Using Wolcott IA as a example of a fine large truckstop surrounded by fields.
I wonder how hard it will be to have a Coop formed by RV People nationally who travel regularly. No rhyme reason or set schedules.
The Coop buys 5 acres next to Wolcott Truckstop. It is paved and so on.
Unfortunately I hope the Coop raises enough in donations towards the purchase to set aside 15.00 a hour 24/7 salary for three people to maintain a Gatehouse at the entrance to keep big trucks out. It would strictly be RV people. Also a additional duty is to levy a small fee for non Coop Members which is customary and average for a campground etc a day at a time. Some might join the Coop at a membership rate per year.
That way RV's will begin to build a 76-Like National chain of Parking near Truckstops in places where parking for RV's is a scarce.
I do not expect truckstops to designate any space for RV's and if they did you will likely as not find a 18 wheeler sitting on it. It will become more trouble than it's worth.
Part of the problem is exposed in this converstation when People get Belligerent over RV's or non trucking parking inside a truckstop. Personally I don't have a issue but I would prefer that RV's "Give" that spot to a trucker because of my previous assertion that truckers are important to our economy and parking is increasingly bad and getting worse against them.
This might alleviate the recent moves by Walmart and others to kick out RV's and pretty much anyone else. I do not understand why a multi Billion dollar business in these United States employing close to a million world wide can have a hard heart towards travelers and so on who likely as not will spend a dollar in the stores. Ive been hunted by some hostile walmarts in the past. However I was blessed by having two stores in particular whose manager is familiar to some of my family and a nicely worded request for use of a corner of their dock area temporarily for half a day or night is usually allowed for me in particular. It is something I never abused. Twice a year maybe at most.
Parking for a big rig is a deadly serious "Game" and sometimes I will park a rig and dare the manager to actually get up and call a rotator tow vehicle to get me before I managed to get out. Or sometimes a local town police force will stand around my rig while I finished dinner for two hours and then spend a hour having a one way conversation as to why allowing my drive wheels to push fallen do not park signs and posts further into the mud. (Ha...) and a ticket which is usually promptly paid. -
50 dollars at blue beacon takes care of it. I have gone into blue beacon so much. Maybe a hour at 3 am takes care of that dirty truck. Surely the RV'er can do the same thing.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I'm confused as to why you're confused.
I guess I'm just saying that every day, a trucker has to "play the cards they are dealt", so to speak.
I have a similar truckstop dilemma in one of my own lanes. Truckstop #1 is my company's preferred fuel. It's a right turn off the ramp.
Truckstop #2 is a left turn off the ramp.
Truckstop #1 always has a line of trucks waiting to get in, causing a backup.
I turn left off the ramp, grab a pull through space in Truckstop#2, and hit the sleeper.
In the wee hours of the morning when I roll out, I go over to Truckstop #1 to fuel and get a coffee, and get on down the road.
I don't know why almost every truck wants to fight their way into TS 1, when they can glide right in to TS 2. -

It is not the law here in the US.
Please dim or momentarily turn off your lights. I'd be way more likely to slow down a mile or two so you can pass. If you flick your high beams in my mirrors, I can't even SEE the road for a few seconds. Think about that while you pass me, and pray I don't hit you since you blinded me. -
