From the article: Prime actually charges drivers to work as “apprentices”
I should start a training company. Why didn't I think of this?bryan21384, buddyd157, Puppage and 1 other person Thank this. -
Looks like slavery made a comeback.

I hope Prime wins. Slavery is forced and coerced, nothing i read leads me to believe anybody was misled. Not a fan of most lease programs, but lets call a spade a spade. Most of these lawsuits should be thrown out. If I contract with you in clear detail and we agree on the terms we should both be held to that contract. Dont come back after the fact and play victim.

I am Prime side on this one. The legal brief that is linked is full of half truths designed to make it seem that the Prime training program is indentured servitude. But this training program is a viable first step for many who don't have a CDL and want to get into trucking. Oliveira, who probably did not have a CDL, received the training necessary to get one and never would have had to pay a cent if he completed his 1 year contract. After receiving his CDL he earned a rate comparable to that of other inexperienced 1st year drivers if looked at over the 1 year contract. His decision to go lease was his alone. I am pretty sure that .14/mile is for all miles , trainee and trainer.

The driver, Oliveira, agreed in writing to lease a truck from Prime and agreed to pay all expenses out of his own pocket. Oliveira is uninformed. He's too uninformed to understand the difference in leasing a truck and being a true owner-operator. Prime should sue him.
Edit: changed a couple of words; don't want to use disparaging words against another driver.Last edited: Sep 17, 2018

I doubt that he chose to be a lp driver. The deception and coercion many of the lp companies use is unconscionable. Drivers above probably have been in this industry and recognize these tactics and feel caveat emptor, but if you're just beginning, and you aren't earning anything, a story like "we won't have a company truck for you for 5 weeks, but if you take this lp, you'll be on the road tomorrow!" will put most guys in an lp in a New York minute.
