Static level

    my static will be very low with squelch down and rf gain up, when I key mic up and unkey the staic is very loud. It goes down after a minute or so but it doesnt receive well either way. Any idea why keying mic would increase static?

    Is this an older radio or a new radio? Has it been working okay or is this a new install? Have you checked out your antenna with an SWR meter?

    My first thought would be a weak electrolytic capacitor, or a cold solder joint.

    My coax was broke, putting new one in Saturday.

    Was the coax being squeezed by the door closing, or something like that?
