"The difference between a Class A and Class B commercial driver's license is a Class B CDL allows the driver to operate any heavy straight vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 26,000 pounds, as well as any vehicle towing another vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds."

    Cdl b is below 26000lbs.

Cdla is anything above. I'm sure once you get higher there may be more stipulations.

But as you sit I personally cannot see why you would be even considered a class b.

Old school mustang a generous 5000.

Your tow is maybe 12000 gvwr?

Idk about local laws to your state nor tow laws.

Maybe someone can fill in about the fine line between a Cdl B and a regular license.

On the back of mine it says cdl b <25999

    Cdl a 26000+

There’s something wrong there. Perhaps the > sign is pointing the wrong way?
When I include my class B as experience. I now say; 50k pounds, on 3 axles, 13 speed transmission. It sounds the most impressive possible.

    Rideandrepair and Samuelh Thank this.

The ONLY difference between a class A CDL and a class B is the size and weight trailer that can be hauled. Get a copy of your states Commercial Vehicle test study book and look up these vehicle classes!

A tandem dump truck is probably around 25k empty.... And loaded 72-75k neighborhood. The company I work for has two tanker straight trucks.... Class b. That tow truck you showed likely only needs a class c, it may or may not have air brakes. If you goal is to become a CDL truck driver....that tow truck IS NOT a way to do it.

Thank you Sir for this post. To answer your question it will never stop. People will regergitate the crap they hear at truck stop counters instead of looking up the info themselves. How many US Marshall stories have we heard and told this is a true story?
