I had a drop-and-hook at a receiver the other day. I picked up a sealed trailer from a drop lot and brought it sealed to the receiver. She refused to sign my BOL stating "we haven't unloaded it yet, we don't know whats on it." I said "maam, whats on it is what the shipper put. I can't release the trailer without a signature that you received it." She called her supervisor, he refused. I had to call Ozark and they said just put "refused to sign."
I drove that thing through the mountains for 10 hours to get it where it was on time and safely and she wouldn't even sign the stupid BOL saying she got the trailer? I was like signing the BOL doesn't say you got whats on the BOL it says you got the trailer from me. If it wasn't loaded right I don't know, it was sealed when I picked it up.
And on that same note why do I have to wait for lumpers to count a sealed load that I deliver? Its not like I can drive back 500 miles and grab another box of widgets that they didn't load. Unload the trailer and cut me loose. Then you can count your crap and if that's not right call the shipper don't call me. I'm not allowed to open sealed trailers without approval so it wasn't me that screwed it up. Holding me up and wasting my time will not change anything if you're short or over on product.
A new one to me, a receiver refusing to sign the BOL

“Received one sealed trailer, subject to count”
gentleroger, tscottme, BUMBACLADWAR and 1 other person Thank this. -
If still refuses, take your copy and write “dropped one sealed trailer, (date, time, place) customer refused to sign”
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
would you sign for a load of unknown . then if it's off 1000 widgets, your screwed because you signed for it.

I would "guess" Cal or NJ.

I delivered a load and had to go weigh before and after. What a pain.

Write "Refused to sign" on the bill and be on your way. Does not happen that often, but it does. I always ask the shipping/receiving clerk their name and write it on the bill. Screw em.
86scotty and jamespmack Thank this. -
Had a lady kinda do the same to me.
She said, I don't know what's in it.
I said, me neither. As far as I know, it's empty......all I'm doing is delivering a trailer. All you're doing is saying I delivered this trailer.
She just laughed and signed.gentleroger, tommymonza, magoo68 and 1 other person Thank this.
