Yesterday: In the morning we pretripped the truck and learned the in cab inspection. We drove around the yard and kept practicing the little things we need to work on. In the afternoon we did the pre trip and got introduced to backing.
Today: We did the entire pre trip and all started working on backing. In the afternoon we all went out on the road.Bussman Thanks this. -
We spent majority of the day working on backing. The last few hours we drove on the road. We continued building upon the pre trip and in cab inspection as well.
Bussman, lilnae and Swiss Mountain Dog Thank this. -
So what's happened lately

Sorry I haven't updated lately.
For the remainder of the class. Basically, after the first week you will continue to build upon everything that is taught. Everyday someone will do the in cab and brake test. You will either drive or back. The drive varies. Somedays we were challenged with narrow roads, tight turns, and some days we even did a little bit of highway driving.
On the 3rd week we all took our pre CDL test with the other instructor who has the other half of our class. I was the only one to pass. My truck of 4 struggled with backing because we didn't practice as much as the other group. Since I passed my drive they scheduled me and my roommate to go first. Everyone in the other truck passed their CDL. Myself and 2 others in my truck all failed backing. The last person to go passed because we spent an entire day getting 1 on 1 instruction while the others were testing out. This past week the instructor from the other truck has been training me personally since I'm dry van and the last week doesnt pertain to me. He has showed me how to slide tandems, we've done close quarters backing, hes showed me advanced driving techniques, and we've spent about 15 hours backing. Needless to say when I retest on Monday I'm not worried.
If your flatbed the 4th week is all cargo securement and stuff specific to flatbed. Marshfield and Gary typically train flatbedders and Atlanta (Conley) and Appletin typically train van. Unfortunately they didn't have enough instructors in GA for me to be able to attend there as planned which is why I got sent to WisconsinBussman, BlueThunderr and lilnae Thank this. -
I passed my retest so I am officially a CDL holder. Everyone except one person in our class passed. I got my hard copy CDL today and should be leaving on to Phase II shortly once a trainer becomes avilable.
